Except that it is an "all eyes are watching" situation moving forward.  Want to get voted in/out?

Look, at a local level, our councilors here have grown pretty comfortable and smug in their positions...but there was a slight shake up this year when two of the long term developers got ousted for a fresh faced green and a young female who's been very active in the fight for the farmland.  Now the numbers are split.  I'm convinced that the Mayor held on to his position ONLY because the alternatives were awful.

We can't just sit back because "nothing will happen".  We have to be part of the movement to make things happen.

On a "go to jail" scale?  Probably not.  But, at least things are starting to shift and ripples eventually do make waves.

I agree with you. Even coming out and saying they are cracking down on money laundering will discourage people from doing it. There are so many indicators that made it blatantly obvious something wrong as happening and not only did the government not do anything about it they flat out lied, acted like nothing was going on, and even pointed the finger at people calling them "racist" for wanting answers.

I got tired of what was going on and I moved. That said, Toronto isn't much better and I hope to move to the US so I can actually live a simple middle class lifestyle. Even with a $280K household income my lifestyle isn't even middle class or average - old low end car, crappy bungalow in a poor neighbourhood etc. For the same price in a lot of US cities i'd be living in a mansion and driving a Tesla.

If the report isnt released then we know that both parties are guilty of corruption.

the timing of any report completion and release likely will be pefect

wiliam barr could be available by then to undertake any necessary vetting and redaction

and provide the requisite summary so we all know what really occurred

I am in favour of the public inquiry into only if  it leads to arrest and prosecution of those responsible for money laundering.  These include politicians, lawyers, real estate agents, and the individuals who bought homes.    Otherwise, it will be a big waste of money with money going to lawyers. It will be likely hundreds of millions of dollars that could be put into better use.

We already know what happen and have plenty to suggestions to deal with the problem.  So what is the purpose of the public inquiry?   For political reasons?  If it is for political gain reasons, ie,  to blame the BC Liberals, forget it.  Remember it is Canada-wide problem with BC in 4th position.   A lot of more money laundering has gone to other provinces.   Perhaps it should be a National Public Inquiry.  Much of the problem lies within the Federal jurisdiction.

I mentioned this a while back that a full inquiry should be done, and whatever has been bought with ill gotten means goes back to the good people of B.C .

We are the ones who have been hurt the most by this, and the Casinos and Banks that have been shown to have contributed to the laundering of illegal money should be  fined and or shut down completely for being so greedy and corrupt.

I really don't expect there to be any evidence left after all this time for any corrupt (LIBERAL)politicians to be held responsible, some are probably at their shredders as I am writing this, but it would be nice to recoup moneys for the deserving people born here in B.C. that have had to deal with this crisis,

Put the money into "really" affordable housing and I don't mean 1400 a month for a one bedroom place.

one idea was brought up, a very good idea.

Foreingers cannot buy property in Canadian land.

Government didn't like this idea.

GG, small young families who actually want to live in a detached house.

Confiscate all properties found to be bought with dirty money and give them to low income families. Chinese crooks should lose every penny of dirty money and assets they have in Canada.

good luck, since trigger happy real estate agents were more then happy to sell a house for the fast commission and give zero $&!#s where the money came from.

Anyone who believes politics is anything more than a facade is seriously out to lunch. This is a hilarious example.

Theatre.

Sells a lot of advertising from local to national and international news.
