[Signing] Stars re-sign Esa Lindell

Yeah he was good in the playoffs, but he hasn’t done enough to warrant that high salary. Was expecting 4.5-5 for 2-4 years truthfully, more of a show me deal.

30 points, 24 minutes a game, 161 blocks, 143 hits. Doesn't take care of the puck it seems. 92 giveaways to 30 takeaways. Not sure he warrants a near 6mil contract. But hey, if that's what Dallas thinks is best by all means. I don't watch enough Dallas games to know how valuable he is to the team. Seems like a bit too much.

A little steep imo. He's good and probably worth at least 5, but I'm not sure 5.8 for that long is the right move for Dallas.

5 was my initial thought as well, maybe they are expecting him to expand on his season. Only 24, so maybe he improves his offensive totals.

Why is that? Lindell has size and had more goals in his rookie season than Stetcher does in 3.

... umm because it sets the whole range of possible salaries for similar aged D higher up.  That is how it works....

It probably means Stecher’s agent can reasonably come in with a $5 million ask on a long term deal and settle for $4.5 or more.

Stech has a career high of 23 points.

Lindell scored 11 goals last year, Stecher had 2. Lindell played 24:20 ATOI last year (mostly against top competition), Stecher played 19:55 (only against top competition while Tanev was hurt).

Lindell has proven to be a great #2/3 D-man on a playoff team. Stecher has only proven to be a decent #3/4 D-man on a bottom-feeder. At this point, Stech will probably cost around $4M, on a shorter term (3-4 year) deal.

Lindell plays on a good team with a partner who has regularly been in Norris contention and is one of the true #1 D in the league.

Stecher plays with.... Hutton.

Lindell when not with Klingberg hasn’t shown to be able to carry a pairing.  He is better than Stecher, but not drastically better.
