The Minnesota Wild will have approximately $20M in cap space next season. We are already in talks with a few teams regarding potential deals to help them resolve cap space issues, but haven't solidified a deal just yet.

We are primarily interested in young roster forwards (perhaps impending RFAs asking for large raises?). We have a number of solid picks and prospects that we would be willing to deal to make something work.

Also, we have a few roster players with low cap hits that could be available for a more productive/expensive player, or just a pick/prospect deal:

  • Austin Watson - $1.1M cap hit
  • Leo Komarov - $2M cap hit (with 50% retention)
  • Brad Richardson - $1.85M cap hit
  • Valentin Zykov - $675K cap hit >> available for a late 2019 pick
  • Nick Seeler - $725K cap hit >> available for a late 2019 pick

@Tylez

Note that Frederick Gauthier still has a year on his deal at 675k...it doesn't show the year in the quoted form, but it's his AAV from CapFriendly for 19-20

Quote

Arizona Qualifies:

Marcus Granlund

If anyone wants the rights to Par Lindholm, Ilya Lyubushkin, or Bogdan Kiselevich fire me a late pick and he is yours.

Thanks to @Rush17 for the fruitful trade talks.

This deal was a few days in the making, but it stemmed from the fact that we were in bad need of some cap relief and found it here in this deal. Alex Tuch is a heck of a young player and we were hoping to keep him around, but with him being an RFA this summer and looking for a big pay-day we couldn't fit his raise under the cap. Anthony Mantha is a player who we think is in a similar situation, as a talented young scoring winger, but the big difference is that he'll be looking for his pay-day next summer when we'll be much better suited to deal with those demands.

In order to bridge the gap though, we added Max Lajoie who is a solid young d-man that we weren't overly keen on moving either, but we do feel that young d-men was a position of strength and that was the price to do business. We wish both Alex and Max the best of luck in Nashville.

Next up on the agenda: figuring out what to do with David Rittich, who is rumoured to be a starting goalie this coming year. With Devan Dubnyk already established here in that role, and with Samuel Montembeault waiting in the wings, he could be on the trade block as there's only so many starts to hand out. Teams interested in a netminder should hit us up. We'd be very interested in picking up another pick or two in the draft that's currently going on, as we didn't have a 1st rounder...

@Primal Optimist

It was a difficult decision to move Anthony Mantha, Anthony has been an important member of our young leadership group. We felt however acquiring two young players in Alex Tuch and Maxime Lajoie was worth the cost.

Nashville had 10 pending RFAs heading into next season. Being able to try and sign Tuch to an extension now provides us with some cost certainty heading into next summer. We are hopeful we can get a deal done in the near future.

We would like to thank @_arby_18 for being patient with us as we sort out some things during this discussion process. We would like to thank Anthony for his time in Nashville and wish him the best in the Sharks organization.

Thanks @Tylez for the quick processing of this deal.

@Primal Optimist @Blue Jay 22

Thanks to @Caboose for the fairly easy negotiations. He needed cap relief and a backup goalie, we had an extra goalie and lots of space.

Namestnikov has been a disappointment since leaving Tampa, but we're hoping he'll have a better season this year, and be worth his $4M cap hit. There are rumours he'll be traded - a fresh start might be just what he needs.
