[Rumour] Ducks exploring trade market for Corey Perry

One of the greatest players in Anaheim Ducks history could be on his way out.

The Ducks are reportedly exploring the trade market for former Hart Trophy winner Corey Perry, sources told The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun.

Anaheim has contemplated a buyout if a trade can't be worked out, LeBrun added.

Perry has two years remaining on his contract and comes with an $8.625-million cap hit. He has a full no-movement clause, which would give him control over any trade, but not a buyout.

Here's what a buyout for the 34-year-old would look like, according to CapFriendly:

SEASON | POST-BUYOUT CAP HIT

2019-20 | $2.625M

2020-21 | $6.625M

2021-22 | $2M

2022-23 | $2M

The Ducks have $9.13 million in projected cap space but don't have any key pending free agents.

Perry's production has cratered over the past three seasons. He hasn't reached the 20-goal mark since 2015-16, and he managed just 10 points in 31 games during an injury-riddled 2018-19 campaign.

He's the franchise's all-time leader in games played and ranks second in goals, third in assists, and third in points. He was named the league's Most Valuable Player during his 50-goal campaign in 2010-11. His goal-scoring exploits that season also earned him the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy.

What trade market? 34 year olds that have had knee problems and make $8+ mil aren’t exactly hot commodity these days.

A buyout would be pretty dumb as well since he only has 2 years left on his deal and means a lot to the organization.

Perry for Loui.

Hope your joking. Perry is worse of a player and higher cap hit!

There is no way anyone will want this guy at his rate.

If he is bought out and still wants to play, it would be pending his medical/physical  and willingness to sign for a 1M/year special.

I would maybe take this, if Perry passed a physical. If a team is more competitive, Perry's compete level goes up and I would bet on a bounce back. Also thinking back to the old trade for Perry thread from years ago. Wishing we had Raymond, Ballard, and a 1st. That might actually get it done now, funny enough:bigblush:

Two years left on his contract. I can see a playoff team taking him on for 50% retained. Give him reduced minutes on the 2nd or 3rd line on a deep playoff team, and he could be a good pickup.

Not sure what team fits him in, but someone will.

That would describe most nhl players

”give him protected minutes with offensive starts on a line with good players and he will do ok”
