When the top agent in the game and a veteran player PUBLICLY say the problem is staying and they want to move on ... they have virtually shut the door on returning. It is the strongest message that can be sent, it is not accidental in the heat of the moment. JP doubled down on Eriksson’s comments from Sweden in order to make it more untenable for him to come back. The Canucks have complete freedom to play hardball now without looking bad at all. If they find a deal for him, they can say this is what we found. After what your camp has done, we just can’t bring him back. He will be waived and assigned to Utica if no deal has happened, and that is better for us than having to give up huge assets to trade him.
