[Proposal] VAN - NYR

Recommended Posts

To Vancouver : Kevin Shattenkirk

To NYR: Ben Hutton + 3rd round in 2020

Shattenkirk is signed for two more years and is a right handed D who has been successful on the powerplay. He had a down year last year so his value is low due to his high salary, but the Canucks can afford to take it on for the next two years.

Edler - Shattenkirk

Hughes - Schenn

Juolevi - Stecher

*Trade Tanev

If this story is true you could get Shattenkirk for a lot less than that. Rangers might pay you to take him.

Shattenkirk has been on the board all spring. It’s no secret the Rangers have sought a trade partner for the offensive-minded blueliner, and now are reportedly mulling over a buyout in the absence of one.

Buy out!  Wow!  We definitely cannot trade for an ugly contract, like Lucic or Zaitsev.  Let the other teams just buy those guys out.

Two years of shattenkirk may be worth the risk, and we will most likely get a decent add to take the contract. Another pick perhaps, rangers will need the space for a trouba contract. This would also allow us to move tanev a little more freely. While its a gamble, its only a gamble in terms of cap space which we have. It fills a need. Best case scenario he can find his game again and we can trade him as a rental two deadlines from now. Worst case have two years of an ugly contract.

Probably remove that 3rd then.

I would also do Shattenkirk for Sutter straight up if they were into it.

I've always felt this guy was one of the league's most overrated defencemen.

I wouldn't give the blue-shirts anything substantial for him that's for sure.

Especially since there's discussion indicating it's 50/50 that he just gets bought out.

Both NYR (they have about $8-$10M in cap space) and VAN probably need to shed cap.

Curious if a deal could be made involving Eriksson, Sutter, Shattenkirk and a forward or two with larger contracts from NYR.

They need to re-sign Trouba, Buchnevich (21 goals last year) and Lemieux and I'm not sure if their current space allows them to fit the first two.

I could see the Rangers having interest in Sutter to hopefully take harder minutes from Howden and Andersson.  Maybe the Canucks could retain some salary and take back Shattenkirk and Strome (maybe with some salary retained by NYR to make everything work).

Not sure if Eriksson has a relationship with Lundqvist but maybe there's something positive there.

Strome can play C and RW which gives the Canucks options.  He's a UFA next summer so if he works out, then maybe he can be kept longer or he can otherwise be a placeholder for Gaudette.

Would be great if the Canucks could pry Kreider out too but I have no idea how that would work cap wise and doubt NYR would include him in this kind of deal.  He should be worth more, especially at the TDL, but who knows, he's a UFA next summer too so maybe his value won't be that great.
