Cause its gonna be pretty damn hard to play not able to even hear what your teammates are saying on the ice or what the coach is telling you to do. Popular Post GoldenAlien
From Canucks Russian scout Sergei Chibisov: “He’s a good overall player,” Chibisov said, speaking for himself, not Podkolzin. “He works hard. He does have leadership qualities. He’s strong on the puck, along the boards and in the corners. He can shoot and he can make a play. And all the boys he plays with, they all like him. He’s a good team leader.” “Vasily says it wasn’t hard from a physical point of view, it was hard psychologically,” Chibisov said in translation to a question about Podkolzin’s fractured year. “He hopes these (next) two years he’s going to play in Russia, he will get stronger. He will be more a man. “Vasily says it is hard to express his feelings now. He is so excited. He hopes that in two years from now, he will come to Vancouver and help the team win. Vasily says he can do whatever he will be asked to do.” ESPN: Scouting report: He remains under KHL contract for the next two years, but Podkolzin is an exceptional talent, with high-end skill and power in his game. He has a mean streak, gets on pucks quickly and can finish. Podkolzin wasn't dominating in the same way at the end of the season, and his club play was underwhelming, but I've maintained all year that he was never put in a great position to succeed this season because he played at three different levels in Russia. When Podkolzin is at his best, few in this class are better. He does a little bit of everything and does almost all of it very well. -- Peters Team fit: Podkolzin is a bit of risk because of that KHL contract, but I've heard from teams that those worries were largely quieted at the combine. Podkolzin won't be around for a couple of years, but he needed a few years to get his pro legs anyway. The Canucks have another high-end forward in their growing crop of young players with boatloads of skill. -- Peters Sporting News: 10. Vancouver Canucks - Vasili Podkolzin, RW, SKA Neva (VHL) No draft prospect competes as hard as this Russian wolverine, whose relentless pursuit of the puck can only be matched by his ability to control the pace of a game. He's not only smart, but also capable of highlight-reel plays. His physical style and ability to get under an opponent's skin will make him one of the most hated players in the league, but that's a good thing for the Canucks. NHL.com analysis: The Canucks will have to wait at least two more seasons to get Podkolzin to North America but he could be worth the wait. Scouts loved his skill and his 200-foot game, and he was a captain on most of the teams he played on. His star turn at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in August is more akin to his NHL potential. 2
Popular Post Nave
I wasn't even thinking about him at our pick, but when we got him, I was like, "Pod.Kol.Zin." Stoked about the pick. He is a bulldog on the puck, and routinely drives to the net. I think he would be great with either Bo or Pettersson. 2

That's one of the criticisms of his game. He needs and bit more explosiveness and and lateral agility. His straight forward speed is great however. A player that is able to identify their weaknesses rather than get defensive are more likely to improve those aspects. I still remember when Gaunce thought his skating wasn't a problem and did little to improve it. Look where that got him. I'm sure Horvat would be happy to give his skating instructor's contact info out. Love seeing a self-motivated guy.

Camel Toe Drag
I see his absolute floor being an Ivan Barbashev and we all saw how important he was during these playoffs.
HockeyHarry
I’ve been hard on Podkolzin. I Amit it. but he’s a Canuck now. So I’m on the Podkolzin train. I see him as a huge piece for playoff success. He is that grit that Canucks lacked. In this draft I liked the finesse skilled players more but in reality Canucks do need a Podkolzin type guy. Cant wait to see him on the ice in a Canuck uni.

canuck_in_england
This is a genuine question before anyone rips me a new one. To me his goal scoring record doesn't stand out, this is not something to care about at all at his development level I guess? Do scouts pay attention to points at this stage? Podkolzin was amazing against his age group. Although he is pretty much a full year younger than those guys too, he did great. He’s still 17 and played much of this year in the KHL.

That being said, I imagine of the players left only Podkolzin and maybe Boldy would likely be NHL ready in the same timeframe that Petey and Hughes were, so you're probably right about anyone else taking 2 years or more. I'd still love to see us negotiate for his release after one season, especially if he lights it up next year. It'd be pretty cool to see him and Tryam back in the lineup at the same time. If not anything else, it would keep our streak of Calder contenders intact Will be really interesting as the Hughes brothers battle it out for the calder this season.

If you're talking about last season, its probably because he played in 3 different leagues. Kinda hard to get into a groove if you get shuffled around a lot. He said it wasn't physically tough but it was mentally tough.

Let him mature and finish becoming a man at home. Which is perfectly reasonable. 1
