You're speaking for everyone. Exaggerating things to prove a point...just keep it real, that's all. Quote I also dont see the obsession. Guy played one season for us and it's likely it ends there lol. Obsession too. You're making your opinion "realistic" and everyone else's is "out there". Maybe just find something enjoyable to do? If you're unhappy you don't really have to project that here. This thread's been mostly positive...do you see maybe everyone else knows something you don't? If you don't want to join the party, that's fine...but you also don't have to crash it. That's your deal, not ours.

MikeyD
Had an okay tournament for me. Had some games where he reached his potential but didn't elevate his game to reach that potential enough for me to be super happy with. Just okay for me. Love his leadership, but he needs to take more risks because when he does he changes the game. Just a hit too safe too often. A lot of little nhl plays he makes that are suited for a bottom six role but his skating is potentially going to be a concern, so hopefully it's just his stride and not the overall pace. He has a very slow moving stride so he might be appearing slower than he looks. Hopefully this is the case. Love his work off the puck defensively. Not sure if it was the game plan but I absolutely hated his role on the powerplay to just stay stationary in front of the net. I'd imagine that's a coaching decision though. Either way, not a great decision. Dunno why people are hating on buddy for saying he's similar to Jannik Hansen. That's not a terrible comparison. He has better hands than Hansen but stylistically plays a very similar game. I still think this kid needs to be unleashed by coaching to be a bit more individualistic. Travis Green might be a great coach for that, a coach like AV would have been horrible for him so hopefully Green can let the rookies continue to experiment, which is one of Green's strengths as a coach. 2

I agree with a lot of this, but I don't see his skating as a concern. He has pretty good top end speed as highlighted by the amount of times he beat defensemen wide to the outside and strong enough to win races to pucks. He may look awkward, almost Mason Raymond-esque in his stance, so it may have a lot of room to continue to improve which would be huge for him. I would put him as average speed wise in the NHL at the moment with potential to be above average. I also don't know why people would be offended by the Jannik Hansen comparison either, but I see the likeness more as his floor than his ceiling. He is still a raw talent, which under great coaching, could really develop into a gem. I view him as a potential Kesler styled winger for his ceiling personally.

Outsiders
Up and down tourney for Podz. Still believe he was playing hurt but I guess we'll never fully know. A few things... 1) His skating looks fine to me. The only thing I notice sometimes is he glides and is kinda hunches over. I don't think he's tired maybe just trying to read the play? It's nothing major tho and can easily be worked on. He's got good top end speed once he gets there. 2) His leadership. Him rallying all the players and trying to find anything to spark the team speaks volumes about him. He will fit in great on this team and be a great teammate. 3) Point production. Its tough to say how well the offence will translate but one thing I'll say again is don't underestimate his playmaking. Let's be honest, Russia didn't have much talent up front outside of number #13, #9 and either #23 or #27 I believe (going off the top of my head). He definitely could have had 6-8 more assists than he had if his teammates had a bit more finish. Like Zegres had 12 assists I think? But look who he was playing with. My point is, it is hard to judge when he wasn't playing with other players with his talent level. Wait till get comes here and he's feeding JT,Petey,Boeser and Bo. Podz can also shoot tho too but I think he's more a pass first player, at least in this tourney he was. 4) Defensive play. He was on the ice for quite a few goals. A few him being out of position and a few by him missing blocking the shot. Now Russia's goalie did struggle so maybe that's why? Podz did block many shots (obviously you can't block them all). So in no way am I blaming him for that. At times it seemed maybe he was caught watching the play but also could have been he was tired and at the end of shift. Never from a lack of compete tho. Could have also been he was trying to cheat to create offence or compensate for another player being out of position. I don't feel it is anything to worry about but I did notice he was on the ice for many goals. 5) Overall this tourney means nothing. He was the ultimate captain and now his next big date is April 30th when he is eligible to sign in Vancouver. Benning has already stated he is getting him here ASAP. Podz will be a big addition to our team and our style of play. Travis is going to love this player. The points will come but I'm happy with this pick as Podz is a player I'd want to go out and battle with. I know he's going to leave it out there and in the playoffs he will help win you games and at the end of the day that is where you're going to see Podz real value. Is in the playoffs, in the game 7's. 1
Boudrias
I thought Podz stood out on the Russian team. Larionov obviously liked his game and played him in critical spots. I thought the Russian team was big enough to have played a more physical game and Podz could have led that effort. In the end their lack of offence finished them off. I don't blame Podz for that as he regularly set up team mates. I can see him in the Van lineup next year.
