Let's see how he is deployed over the next 5 games minimum before re-assessing where he is at in the grand scheme of things. Some guys play their first game on the 4th line, don’t get a lot of minutes and still turn out fine…

I am hoping that he shows enough to earn more minutes and all of this discussion becomes a mute point. Time will tell I guess.

It was a bit quiet but he made all the right plays and was noticeable on the ice for good reasons. I do wonder whether he can carve out some special team's role of some sort. With Boeser and Motte both likely to be back within this road trip, Podkolzin might be one of the guys Green elects to healthy scratch because he doesn't play any other role other than on the fourth line. We all know Green's love for players to have more than a 5v5 role. It is crucial for Podz to gain the trust of coaching staff quickly and start making a name for himself either on the PP or PK. As I see it now, I see Dowling and Podkolzin the ones Green will take out. He had some brutal giveaways and often when he got the puck stood still or just rifeled it off the glass. He looked lost but its 1 game hopefully he finds his footing but he looks like a player with zero confidence.

Also, as a centre coming into the league you have alot more responsibility on the ice. So it makes sense he started on the 4th line at the beginning. Podkolzin is 20, is coming from 2 years playing in the KHL with men, and plays the wing so he has less defensive responsibilities.
Putgolzin
Brock got zero minutes in the first two games of his rookie season. Green didn't trust him yet - or something. Podkolzin with a few minutes in his first game and already getting looks higher up the lineup...things will be just fine. 1 1

Podz played more hockey last year than any other Canuck property. A lot of hockey. That said I totally agree that less than 10 minutes a game he should be in Abby.
Popular Post Goal:thecup
It was his first game. 7+ minutes is not bad. And those were quality minutes; he's a quick study with a lot of skill, strength, and athleticism. I don't see how it would do the team, nor Podz, any good to send him down. He'll be in the top 9 forwards soon, imo (obviously). 2

Agree. If he's still under 10 minutes after 10 games, then it's another discussion but I would expect him to force his way up to top 9 and at least 12 mins+ by then which would be fine at this point.

Gurn
Podz scores, then the Canucks took a penalty, then they got a power play. Does Podz play on either of those special teams? Nope, so now which coach in the league puts a rookie out on the ice after he has sat for 10 minutes? Some self called fans make me sad. 3

Ilya Mikheyev
Gotta believe that Hogs and Pods would be such an annoying line to play against. Hope BB and Motte come back ASAP. The Canucks forward depth will be great: Miller - Pete - BB Pearson - Bo - Garland Hogs - Dickie - Podz Highmore - Juho - Motte Chiasson
DownUndaCanuck
I can understand Green's lack of trust and giving him more ice-time, he's really making the kids earn their playing time. Hughes and Pettersson didn't really have to, they were almost thrown into ice-time because we didn't have much of an option. Podz has been great all over the ice but special shout-out to Myers on that goal, he did a brilliant job skipping through the neutral zone, giving it over to Podkolzin and not to mention the little box-out to buy him some time and space - veteran smart move. He's surely earned a bit of ice-time on our 2nd unit PP but don't see him cracking 10 minutes a night with Green behind the bench for a while. KyGuy123
Ice time will increase and that should not be an issue. Starting on the road with travel like the NHL will be new to him and will need time to adjust. Playing in back to back games watch him crack the 13 min mark tonight. Time management is very important for young guys.

Popular Post -Vintage Canuck-
Vasily Podkolzin in Russian media interview (Google translated): Former SKA forward spoke about his first three games for the Canucks. Striker Vasily Podkolzin was able to break into the base of "Vancouver" on the first attempt and spent the first three games in the NHL. In the second of them, he even scored a goal, but so far the Russian does not get a lot of playing time and a stable place in any particular link. In an interview with SE, Podkolzin spoke about his impressions of his debut in the overseas league. - How was it explained to you that you did not play in the third period of the second match, although you scored a goal? - It happened, probably, because I do not play in equal squads, and it overlapped. And in the end, they did not release it anymore, as it was quite tense. - Did the coach talk to you, tried to explain his position, or is it not accepted in Vancouver? - No. Nobody really says anything, they don't even point out any mistakes. Unless after the match you can watch the game with the coach or his assistant. And so they don't say anything - but I don't say anything, there is no special dialogue. - How satisfied are you with these three matches? You could see from your face that you were happy. - Yes, I'm absolutely happy that I'm in the NHL at all. As much as they give to play, they give as much. Of course, I want more, but it would be worse if I didn't play in the NHL. And they left me in the team. So I'm the happiest, the happiest. How nervous were you that you didn't score a single point in the preseason? - In general, it was a difficult month. Not that it was annoying - but it was unpleasant. There were moments all the time, in every game, but I couldn't score. It's good that we managed to do it at the start of the season. Now we need to increase the pace and show the coach that I am ready for the work rhythm. - What caught your eye when you came out in an NHL match - no longer in preseason? - Speed. - Huge? - Yes. - Did you quickly get used to it? - The big plus was that I played all the matches in the preseason. In the regular season, it was already a little faster. - How did you get settled in Vancouver? Do you like everything? - Yes. We arrived, we live practically in the arena, the apartment is right above it. Very comfortably. A very nice city. - Do they recognize it on the streets? - It happens, rarely, but to be directly recognized constantly - there is no such thing. - How ready are you that these three matches mean nothing and 79 more games in which you need to jump over your head? - I've been preparing for this all summer. And here there is no time to get upset if something did not work out. There are a lot of matches, and there are chances to quickly rectify the situation. This was immediately explained to me. It is very interesting here: until the last minute of the third period you do not know whether you will win or lose. - What time did you fall asleep after an abandoned puck? - At half past four, probably only. Although the very next day we had a game. - Reviewed the video later? - Yes, I did. Cool. - And the last thing: McDavid has already scored a hat-trick, two goals ahead of you. - I was also surprised that some all the questions are serious ... And about McDavid - we will catch up. https://www.sport-express.ru/hockey/nhl/reviews/intervyu-s-vasiliem-podkolzinym-o-debyute-forvarda-vankuvera-v-nhl-1847316/ 4
