I am sure lots of other people has the same reactions as me.

1. When we got past #8 and Zegras was still available I was hoping he would still be there at #10 for the Canucks to take. From the looks on the faces of the Canuck group I bet they were thinking the same thing.

2. I was wondering if the Canucks could pass on Podkolzin at #10. He was obviously the highest rated and no doubt the most talented player available, but the Russian factor is a genuine risk.

3. With Krebs, Soderstrom, and Newhook all still available, I thought the Canucks might trade down. I would have been delighted to trade down and get Krebs or Newhook at 14 or 15 or 16 and maybe get an extra 2nd round pick.

4. It is too bad that Podkolzin is signed in Russia for the next two years. In the last few years we have seen Hughes make a late appearance in his draft+1 year, EP be the best player on the team in his draft+2 year, and Boeser make an impressive late season showing in his draft+2 year. Podkolzin won't be around until his draft+3 year. But, hey, he might be another Calder candidate when he does show up.

5. It was a bit alarming to hear him do his interview through a translator. Reminds me of Tryamkin.

6. But, overall, I can't complain about this peak. He could be the steal of the draft. And i have to respect Benning for making this pick.

7. At least he will be in the World Juniors for the next two years.

Totally agree with most of it... Not so much about trading down, as thought he would take either Boldy or Krebs...

But now over joyed with the pick. Benning to a swing again, and so far it has worked...

Regarding Calder next year...maybe OJ will end up being eligible  next year?

Though he said all the right things, even through the translator. Think he will be a superstar.... He's been compared to Nash, E. Kane, Marchand and a few others in that mould... that sounds fantastic...

Can someone explain to me why bounced around between a couple leagues in Russia last season? Is the MHL and VHL like the AHL and ECHL of Russia?

MHL is junior league in russia, VHL would be like the minor league (AHL) of the KHL.

Could be a bit off on that, but that's my understanding. I know MHL is a junior league & VHL is more of a mens league.

We may finally get that power forward we’ve been looking for since Bertuzzi. Love all the stuff I’m reading about this guy. Absolute steal of a pick. He should have been in the top 5. These other GMs will have a lot of regret in 2 or 3 years time.

Interesting to see that he was ranked in the top 3 between the start of the season and May by multiple rankings.

More I read, more I like.  Hard to argue he wasnt a steal at the position he was taken.  In a couple years he will be joining the team during a strong upward trajectory.

We drafted Brisebois as a 6 footer and he's 6'2" now. Podkolzin turns 18 in a few days, so it's not out of the question.

Bo Horvat's stats in his draft year...……….I get a kick that they think New Jersy Drafted him...……..Bo is now 6'0"     215 lbs

We seem to be cleaning up because of "factors" the last few drafts.

First it was Petey with the weight and strength factor, then it was Hughes with the height factor.

Let us keep taking elite players that other teams don't have the cajones to take.

Woo and his lack of offence in draft year (due possibly to injury and deployment)
