It really seems as if I have read all this mindless drivel before. Oh, yeah, it was in this same thread a year ago. At this point last year the armchair GMs were frothing at the mouth over the fact that his average ice time per game had been less than 4 minutes and he had only skated in about 11 KHL games. Fast forward to this year, and they are frothing at the mouth over the fact that his ice time is only averaging 12 minutes per game and he has played 19 KHL games. Of course this year the same nonsense is even sillier, since even if the Canucks could buy out his contract, there is no NHL or AHL for him to be playing in. There is obviously NO place better for his development right now than exactly where he is. AHL announced they will be opening up in Feb and like I said there are other options. I appreciate your enthusiasm but you are wrong. Let’s chalk this up to a difference of opinions.

Popular Post Harvey Specter
Despite his recent "demotion" - which I personally see as a blessing in disguise - he will get more ice-time to hone in his 200 FT game and be even more well-rounded. Practice, repetition, and fine-tuning his skill-set before making the jump back up to another tier level. On that note, it looks like the Russian staff in charge of icing the team for the upcoming Karjala Cup tournament is confident in Podkolzin's abilities and leadership qualities to captain their squad. Congrats Vasily and excited for what is next in your development track! Harvey Specter
A short, fun clip of Vasily with some stick tricks for the Russia Hockey social media channels! Looking pretty hyped and collected for the upcoming tournament! Rough translation via Google/Twitter: "Look at the puck. And on the club (hockey stick - sp.)! And we will watch all of Vasily Podkolzin and the Russian national team together at the Karjala Cup, where our team will start on November 5." Stierlitz
Hmm the Karjala Cup is the first part of EuroTour 2020-21 for the European national teams. Russia is sending basically their former junior team to play against men from other countries. Igor Larionov is acting head coach of the Russian national team for this tournament. This is quite an experiment... From the Podkolzin's interview during press conference of Nov. 2: Quote It's great that we managed to get together as the team we played two years ago (Vasily means national junior team). This is a good chance for all of us to prepare ourselves and show our best qualities, to play attacking team hockey which we have always been able to play. I believe that this is inherent in us, the Russian players. So the emotions are the most positive. We have gathered as a team, and we believe in each other. We have a lot of motivation, we have something to prove to ourselves, to each other, and to the coaching staff. Roman Rotenberg (left) is First Vice-President of Russian Hockey Federation and... GM of SKA, Saint-Petersburg, the Podkolzin's KHL club. 1

BTW the federation bosses tried numerous times for several years to get Larionov involved with the Russian national teams in some capacity and finally this happens. Saw all of Russia's games last year in person. Podz wouldn't shut up on the bench and was blatantly obviously a leader in that group. Very well deserved. The other participating teams are apparently not too pleased with Russia's decision to send only U20 players. At practice yesterday he was skating on a line with Afanasyev and Khusnutdinov. Popular Post CRAZY_4_NAZZY
I love the fact that Podkolzin has evolved from being a half wall player when he was on the U17 and U18 Russian team, into a player who can be a net front presence. He may not be finishing a lot but he has presence of mind to have great puck control and passing around the net, a player in my mind who has all the right instincts and hockey IQ when to use his tools. Travis Green is going to love using Podkolzin on the PK for years to come (God willing and hoping TG is resigned). He is such a smart PK player, he really reminds me of Alex Burrows awareness and high level of hockey IQ of what to do on the PK. Burrows was such a smart PK player because he reads the play well and is super responsible with the puck once he gets it. However, I think it would be smarter to dump the puck deep instead of sending it back right into his own zone especially when his defense was just changing and it being a long change in the 2nd period. The extra ice time and added trust seems to have unlocked a lot of creativity in Podz game. Edited November 5, 2020 by CRAZY_4_NAZZY 5 2

Russia is icing their U20 team to the displeasure of the other teams. It's a men tournament. The Czech have invited 8 x U20 players. Sweden and Finland have no U20 players on their squad. Their U20 (and U18) players were supposed to play exhibition games in Malmö but they have been cancelled due to a couple of positive Covid-19 cases on the Swedish team. Persson was going to participate. 1
