CRAZY_4_NAZZY
I can see some of Podkolzin's old tendencies to do too much on his own. Might also because his teammates aren't giving him much to work with. I also notice he overcommits himself on the ice. He is too far low in the d zone, needs to keep his position a little higher, or he is susceptible to giving the point too much time with the puck. Off the rush he tries too much to cover the D by skating too close to them, needs to work on his on ice spacing. Overall though I love his compete and work ethic. I think he is overcompensating for some weaker teammates out there, which is making it difficult for his own play.

Popular Post StiffStick33
Good solid game by podkolzin. He was in the mix for quite a few scoring chances. Nice quick little passes to get the play going in most situations. A bit more chemistry with the line mates and there would it would have most likely generated a goal somewhere. The guys fearless. Blocked a huge shot in the second and took one to the back of leg in the last two minutes of the game. Doesn't even flinch.. 2 1 4

Kenny Blankenship
Thought he was the best Russian forward. Noticeably powerful skater, though his top speed has some room for improvement. Once he can get that speed to beat guys consistently on the outside, watch out, cause he definitely isn’t scared to take it hard to the net

I would say he looks taller than Podz so I would put Podz at 6 foot 1 or 2. A lot of discussion on his height in the past 3 months on CDC. This seems pretty clear evidence of Podz being 6 foot 1 or 2.
Provost
First real chance to see him in action. Larionov (my favourite player of all time), compares his play with Messier. So that isn’t too bad, even as much as we have good reason to dislike Messier. As a more contemporary comparison, he honestly looks like Bo out there. Strong, hard worker, plays a 200 foot game. Maybe will take more time to develop his offence than I had thought before... but also looks like he could be a good complementary player anywhere in our top 9. 2
J.I.A.H.N
I think you can sum up Podkolzins skill level and speed when he skated end to end against the best and deepest team on the tournie. Not sure who was on the ice for Canada, but he caught that defenseman unprepared for his speed. (He got there faster than the Dman thought he would get there, hense Pods skated around him) IMO, he is as fast as anyone else out there.....I don't think that is the issue people are talking about. He actually showed his speed more than once on those clips that are in this thread. Vision and passing are great......shooting? Jury is out on! (The backhand was weak) Overall, he was as good as Dach, so I am good with those comparisons Edited December 24, 2020 by janisahockeynut 1 1

Sorry rekker, no disrespect, but I don't see it.......maybe, but I don't see it, and you are right In style.....yesh, I can't convince myself of that...maybe after seeing more games I know Larionov gets him to relax, but the raw talent is there, but Bure had a confidence to use his talent at will, without fear Podkolzin needs more Larionov and less KHL I am in no way saying that Podkolzin is either of these two, but neither Gretzky or Orr were tethered in any way, and were free to do and go where they wanted to go Free of guilt of making a mistake, with no fear of punishment.........Bure was developed much the same way Larionov gets it, but I am afraid those cookie cutters in the KHL are fighting for their jobs, and have to teach system and discipline to keep their jobs My bet is they are intentionally slowing down his development...conspiracy? Yes! But they see alot of their talent end up in our juniors and then NHL They get the dregs It is only a short time, but we need to get him out of there!

Boudrias
Really liked his game. He is definitely bigger. Two grade A setups in the 1st period. He generated a number of scoring chances for himself during the game. He is a solid net front presence. I have the USA game set for recording. A lot of size on the Russian team. As they get there games in I suspect they amp up the physical side. Thought Canada was a tad faster.
Popular Post Harvey Specter
Another great article from Gillian Kemmerer who has a beat on the Russian side of things, spanning from the NHL to the Junior ranks. Here's her interview with Pods prior to the start of the World Juniors tune-up! Podkolzin is carrying himself like a true captain and stellar teammate: https://en.khl.ru/news/2020/12/24/479101.html Feel free to click through the link for the whole interview but these questions and answers stood out for me: Quote GK: Did Igor Larionov share any specific expectations of you? What takeaways from that experience have guided your pre-World Juniors preparation? VP: Of course. He said that I was essentially going to be the coaching staff’s assistant. I was supposed to be a link between the coaching staff and the players—so my task was simple: support the boys, help out the team, discuss certain topics with the coaching staff. Just regular captain duties, really. Our whole team had a decent tournament at the Karjala Cup. As for me personally, I needed to improve my physical conditioning a little bit. That’s what we’ve been working on at camp right now. Hopefully—or rather, I’m certain—we’re going to be in top shape come the World Juniors, if everyone can stay healthy. Quote GK: Daniil Chayka said to me last week that you were born to be a leader.VP: I’m thankful to Chayka for those words. It’s great to hear, but I don’t know what to say. I just want to help my team. I just want to win. If I’m trusted to be the captain, I’m ready to carry out the duties. Quote GK: Which captains have you admired over the years? Do you attempt to study or take anything from their leadership styles? VP: Going to back to U18 hockey, I made a team a year above my age. [Lokomotiv Yaroslavl’s] Anton Malyshev was the captain there. And then I went to the World Juniors with such players as Klim Kostin, Vitaly Kravtsov and Dmitry Samorukov – they were the true leaders. The following year, I played with Grigory Denisenko and Alexander Romanov. You look at these guys and pick up things. We still keep in touch and I can ask them for advice. I think these are the guys I looked up to. I would also like to add Evgeny Ketov to the list, with whom I play on SKA, as well as [alternate captains] Anton Burdasov and Anton Belov. There are a lot of leaders out there. I see how they act and pick up a few things. Quote GK: Not many players can say that they made their KHL debut alongside the likes of Nikita Gusev and Pavel Datsyuk. Can that experience even be put into words? VP: It was probably one of the most nerve-racking days of my life! And also one of the most memorable ones. After all, I’ve been following and cheering for those two players pretty much my whole life. I was lucky to step on to the same ice with them. It was unforgettable and awesome. The feeling was indescribable. Quote GK: Spoken like a true captain. What do you hope to show us at World Juniors? VP: It’s not about showing myself. I want the team to play well. I will do everything for them, and I know that the other players will do the same. Everyone will play to win.
