Podkolzin being compared to Jannik Hansen and Alex Burrows...

I think peeps are comparing his tenacity to those guys.

This guy is closer to Bertuzzi than he is to Hansen.  A top 6 stud who will be a great penalty killer.  Just wait until you see him play with high end players like BO and Petey.

He is a star in the making.  A true power forward who can become a 25 goal scorer in the NHL, but can also become a very good set up man who can get 40-50 assists per year.

Can't wait to see him on BO's wing in the near future...

Well,  it will be awhile before any of us can make that kind of prediction.  Imo,  I don't see Podz as a Bertuzzi type; in the new NHL, players get penalties for gently bumping an opponent and suspensions are handed out regularly.  Bertuzzi wouldn't be a Bertuzzi in the current league.

I think Podz will be more like Horvat with snarl.

Which in itself, is a beautiful thing!

Wow, this is quite impressive!

His skating is not a problem at all.  He just needs to improve his mechanics like BO needed to do.  BO is now one of the better skaters on the team, I see Podkolzin in the same category as BO as he has the tools and the power and acceleration to be a great skater...

Pods might be faster than Bo.

Clocked at 48.1 kph blue line to blue line, that's 3 faster than McDavid  !!!

McWho? {kidding!} But that is amazing that this kid's skating is at that level. He just keeps getting better and better.

Thank you, my friend, for your kind words regarding my little contribution to this forum. There is good chance we see Vasily with Canucks in May, this entirely depends on possibility of Podkolzin been called up to play for Russian national team in the world championship in May 2021.

First of all, this is not clear right now if this championship is going to take place. Initially, two countries Latvia and Belarus were selected to host the tournament, then in Jan 19 the IIHF changed its own decision and excluded Belarus for political reason under pressure of the championship sponsors. This Monday, Feb 1st the IIHF is going to make decision which country would organize the tournament: Latvia, Denmark, Slovakia. Or not due to the covid situation.

Next, this is not known right now who is going to be the head coach for the Russian Team. If Bragin, then there is good chance that Podkolzin would not be selected. If Larionov, we don't have much chance since Vasily is one of his favorite players. Time will tell.

Thanks, Sterlitz, appreciate the update.

Podkolzin looks like a beast in his native Russia's KHL.

I can't wait to see what he can do at the absolute highest level of competition.

Does Podkolzin project as someone who can score 50-60 points per season?

Or is he more like a 40 point player, who is tenacious and plays good defensively (hounds the puck like there's no tomorrow kind of player - dog on a bone).

Ah, Nichushkin, the guy that we shoulda have drafted in 2013 draft. Brings back some memories... he was compared to Malkin if I'm not mistaken. Didn't know he is a defensive specialist now.

If Podkolzin becomes a third liner that kills penalties and defends the lead; that strengthens our lineup.

We need quality players at all positions to win the cup.

The top 6 is kind of set with maybe one LW spot available anyways and acquiring a top 6 LW should be the easiest among all positions that needs to be filled.

Lol, I remember that. And Hunter Shinkaruk about 15 picks later was going to be the next Patrick Kane. Ha.

Podz is a  coaches dream player, along with Petey, Bo, Miller and Hughes.  OJ could get three and Hogs will also get there.  Lind is being converted to center, something he was always billed as being able to do, but it suits his game so well.

Team is being built, not a series of 1 dimensional players who cannot play a team game.  This is why Jake is an outlier within this group, or has been for a long time.  That part of his game is weaker, the emphatic team game, where you just know where the right place to be is.  Brock really struggled with that two way play, team game approach as well.  Bo was the exception for a NA developed pro in terms of his complete game.

Podz has a Bo level compete and awareness, drooling at seeing him win puck battles in the corner, coming out with control and feeding pucks to guys in scoring lanes... Podz, Bo and Miller on one line would be almost unfair, Kessler esque from the 2010-2012 years.

Hogs with Petey and Pearson with Hughes and Schmidt come out after each dead puck is whistled after the Bo line forces an offensive face off.

Switch up lines, mostly put Pearson in with Petey due to his better overall two way play vs Jake.  Just want a big body on that Petey line without Miller in this setup.  Green could deploy his top two lines as 5 man units if Bo’s line could hem in the opposing team, which with Podz and Miller, devasting puck turn over possession line.

Just want to add, going back years to Trevor Linden. early second guessing was part of every Canucks pick.  Take the following year, Petr Nedved over so many players that should have gone before him based on his impact in the league, but Nedved was not the best pick, but then Antoski at 14... wow, if it wasn’t for Naslund that would have looked horrible vs the names that came later.  After that, Quinn’s picks declined rapidly, save Peca.

Second guessing picks, second nature, but until a pick is traded or let go, why not wait and see.

To me he looks like a 50-60 point guy. He won’t be out of place in an NHL top 6. The guys board plays and defensive battles will make the coach very happy and earn him minutes. With his hockey sense and playing with the players we have on our top 6 I can definitely see him as a 50+ point player.
