CanadianRugby
CDC. In your opinion, what has been the best and worst season for the Canucks under Benning. For me... Best Season - 2017-18 It starts with a strong draft. 5 picks in the top 100. DiPietro, Gadjovich & Lind have all shown some promise and of course then there's Pettersson. The regular season results were bad but it resulted in a high draft pick that turned in to Quinn Hughes. Brock Boeser had a great first season and the Sedins had a beautiful, perfect farewell game in Vancouver. Worst Season - 2016-17 It starts with a bad draft. Only 2 picks in the first 4 rounds. No draft lottery luck, missed out on Matthews & Laine. OJ, at this point looks like a real bad pick compared to some players taken after him. Traded draft picks & McCann for Gudbranson. Signed Loui Eriksson to 6x6. Only got 69 points.

6string
It took Benning and Linden three years to mop up after Gillis. We are now finally in a postion to evaluate Benning's reconstruction project of drafts, trades and FA signings. His best season is this coming season, we're making a legite run for the playoffs!

NewbieCanuckFan
It took less time for Brian Burke to clean up the mess (not to mention having to deal with Mike Keenan) when he was hired. And all that time, unlike Benning, he was told to cut payroll. Core of the team Gillis inherited was from Burke. He just couldn’t get a goalie. Last year the team won 2 more games than 4 years ago, last season might be the best in the last 4 as the team lost only 47 games but worst may be yet to come and anything he does may affect this team as long as what a lot of fans blame Gillis stuff 7 years ago, so tomorrow may shape the year 2026 or longer. Two more bad trades of 1rst's, two bad contract deals Brock 5 years at 10 mil per or signing two older FA's to 7 to 10 mil deals for 6 years or more. UFCanuck
Best 2015 worst 2014 Passing on pastrnak for mccann is the main reason for the 2014 vote. I still remember that cocky smile by chia when he picked right after Benning.
Tomatoes11
Picking the worst Benning season is extremely difficult because they have all been so bad. It’s like the negative vibe version of picking between your own children.

So is the complaint regarding the worst season not so much that it was bad, but rather that some people didn't like how the team got to a low position/higher draft chance and that then they didn't get lucky in the lottery? ... because there were so many people calling for a tank (still are). Had the team gotten lucky in the draft and got the #1 OA would it then have become the best season under Benning? regards, G.
