Mad scientist GM at work...  ?

Gets rave reviews from those reading it as the funny papers...  image.png.1b4134585dd8f66c205fd12784c53baa.png

Was there any logic? It was our decision to, perhaps, well definitely, overpay on a shorter term deal.  We did similar in the past & found it far more responsible than paying big money to free agents on 7 & 8 year deals. And we like the player, who will play on what we believe is a likely play off team in Philly. Provide a great veteran presence for our young players, help us field an improving line up.

Oh, and we're over the cap floor.

The Calgary Flames are thrilled to bring Zdeno Chara on board. With a nearly full roster before, the Flames had a shade over $13M in cap space. Since we were a playoff team last year, it was important to keep the streak alive, while also having players who could help us go as deep as possible. Got some good players in the system, and when Vitali Kravtsov signing gets posted ( @Squeak *cough*), going to have a good roster. Will also sign Alexandre Texier to a contract, which will give us a full roster. Once that's done, here's what we will go into camp looking like:

Kyle Connor - Dylan Larkin - Phil Kessel

Alex Galchenyuk - Nick Schmaltz - Tyler Toffoli

Andreas Johnsson - Alex Iafallo - Vitali Kravtsov

Kristian Vesalainen - Nick Bonino - Oskar Lindblom

Alexandre Texier - Devante Smith Pelly

Zdeno Chara - Aaron Ekblad

Jacob Larsson - Thomas Chabot

Robert Burtuzzo - Cody Ceci

Jimmy Schuldt

Connor Hellebuyck

Anton Khudobin

That's certainly enough to get to the playoffs, but having a Red Wing, two Coyotes, and two Kings players isn't a recipe for a deep playoff run.

SIGNING: The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Greg McKegg to a two year deal.

det.png Greg McKegg: 2 years, $ 1.8 million dollar contract ( $ 900,000.00 per season ).

The Detroit Red Wings are very pleased to welcome Greg McKegg to Motown. Being able to announce Greg's name in the starting lineup is worthy of a contract alone but Greg also brings perseverance and determination to our young and skilled bottom six. He'll prove to be a great leader for this young team.

TRADE: The New York Islanders have made a trade with the Washington Capitals.

To WSH:

Thank you to Jaku for the thorough negotiation.

First off, Ryan Dzingel has been exceptional for us during his five seasons here in Washington and in Dover.

Speed to to burn, natural finisher, instincts, tenacity. With all due respect to my other guys, I thought Dzingel was my best forward last season along with Evander Kane.

We thank him greatly for being a major part of the last three exciting seasons in Washington and most definitely wish him the best moving forward.

Roslo we paid heavily for last season and was hoping he could play line 2 for us this season. An all around great prospect who is ready to make a big impact. We wish him the best as well.

Curtis McElhinney seems to be in the prime of his career and we are thrilled to have been able to find him such a great fit in Brooklyn.

With all that being said.....

Welcome Evgeny Kuznetsov!

Top end talent is very tough to find, and we just got some.

6 years ago at this same time, Pavel Datsyuk left Washington after a first round playoff exit to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly turning down a four year contract worth over 40-million dollars to stay with the Caps. Datsyuk only played one full lockout shortened season in Washington.

Outside of our time with Datsyuk our top centers have been Elias, Turris, Gagner, Zetterberg and Koivu.

We are very excited to FINALLY have found out top line center that can be an ultimate game-breaker for the Caps.

At age 27 our hope is that Kuznetsov spends the next 10 years here in Washington.

He immediately joins youngsters Laine and Nylander along with a large group of vets in pursuit of the coveted CDCGML cup!
