4 1sts, you gotta be out of your mind, this league is all about drafting and developing,

That's why that JT Miller sucked, all 1st rounders effect your future

Well one 1st especially in the 20th range ain't gonna kill you. More likely the guy pick busts than being an impact player.

Now 4 first in a row, that is a no no.

Interesting things about offer sheets especially the BIG one, the 4 firsts are over a a five year period so a team can offer sheet twice in one year.

So the Canucks offer sheet Dahlin in two years, Buffalo is capped out or close

The Canuck offer max dollars with max term and huge signing bonuses and MNTC.

The Cost 4 1rst over 5 years, doesn't matter the number only that they are the Canuck's, so lets say in years 2,3,4&5 they are 28,29,30,31 picks, that means at least two cup finals and possible win.

So they also offer sheet another capped out team, say Arizona, for a top young player that is like Rantenen for the same type of deal as Montreal's offer or any other team with issues.

The cost is a 1,2,3 so in year one the team gives up a 1,2,3 and the next 4 years of firsts BUT the team is a conference finalist with a team of players now under 25, the new NHL prime and under contract for another 4 to 5 years.

Being a top team as these players need the next big pay day the team starts trading top talent to lower teams for 1rst round picks, sort of like Boston did to get 4 firsts in two years.

As s many love to grind Gillis on Obviously 26 to 30th picks aren't locks but a Dahlin would be worth it.

I think we are a lot farther away than Marner. And a top dman is the most difficult piece to get which makes sense since we never had one.....

I am not sure who was the closest between Ehrhoff, jovo, ohlund, salo, and one year of Edler but none were bonafide top 2 .

i think we need a better third line center than sutter, a better goalie than markstrom and someone more experienced than demko. Our d is in complete shambles. And ep and Hughes are still raw and not totally proven yet.

we are far far away unfortunately....

No we dont need a better 3rd line center...we have beagle, sutter, gaudette, miller who can center, madden coming up too. How many 3rd line centers do we need? we need a 1st pairing D and another top 6 winger, without those 2 pieces, wouldnt matter who was centering our 3rd line.

pettersson, boeser, marner, horvat, miller plus podkolzin and complimenatry players like Baertschi, virtanen, roussell, pearson, leivo, goldobin....not sure why some people think we are far away from a cup contending lineup if we got Marner.

I like Pod, Marner would be a big piece for contention but Pod won't be around for another year or two.

Look at the number of failures this team has had in first round picks by comparison to other teams.

Sure Pettersson is great, Boeser really good but how much better than what other teams did?

There are 10 other players that are close or ahead of Boeser from his draft class.

Pettersson maybe the 3rd best from his draft class

Juloevi, all are better

Virtanen, 24 are doing better

McCann is gone

Hughes has yet to get a season in yet

Podkotzin was a good pick but not around for awhile to help

Pretty much the entire 2016 draft was a bust

It is looking like the 2015 draft will see two players one thanks to Gillis in Boeser and Gaudette.

The point being that giving up 4 firsts with this management for a Marner should be a no brainer except that TO will and can match, the odds are with this management of the 4 picks, late picks, they may get just one player anyway so go for the sure thing and count on proven performance.

I'd rather not offer sheet Laine but instead trade for him...

We have enough cap to give him 8.45 like Aho but there's no way Jets let him walk for just a 1st, 2nd and 3rd... they'll just match.

We should make a solid trade offer to them and just sign Patrick.

Hopefully they can take Sutter back in the deal... maybe something like Sutter + Conditional First (whichever the rangers don't get) + 2nd + Goldobin
