BrockBoester
Eriksson says offseason comments about Green are "overblown" Quote VANCOUVER -- Loui Eriksson said he didn't mean to disrespect Travis Green with offseason comments he and the Vancouver Canucks coach "don't really get along 100 percent." The 34-year-old forward, who has three years left on a six-year contract with an average annual value of $6 million, spoke to media here Wednesday for the first time since telling Swedish website hockeysverige.se in May that he doesn't "get the same trust from Green" as previous coaches and expressed concerns about his role and lack of offensive opportunity. "I think it got overblown a little bit, it's nothing to disrespect the coach," Eriksson said. "All I did was being honest, and me and Travis have talked about it and I think we are on the same page." Eriksson had 63 points (30 goals, 33 assists) in 82 games with the Boston Bruins in 2015-16 but has 76 points (32 goals, 44 assists) in 196 games since signing with the Canucks on July 1, 2016. He was a healthy scratch in March for the first time in his NHL career and last season had 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 81 games. "I have a lot of respect for Travis and think he's a good coach, it was just a question I got from the Swedish newspaper, they asked about my production in Sweden, it's been so good and I had a record there, and I was trying to be honest with my answer and it hasn't been the same in Vancouver," Eriksson said. "It got overblown." Eriksson has seen his offensive role diminish since arriving in Vancouver, with more penalty killing responsibilities and checking-line matchups, and fewer opportunities on the top power play and top-two forward lines. After averaging 2:28 per game on the power play his first season in Vancouver, Eriksson played 1:16 last season, 13th among their forwards. With the Canucks adding veteran forwards J.T. Miller and Micheal Ferland, it would seem there is less of an opportunity for Eriksson to play a top-six role this season. "It's a little bit about confidence too; if you feel good, you play better," he said. "It depends what role you have on the team too, and where you play and that's what I was trying to explain. When I played in top minutes and power play you get more chances to produce and I have always been a player that plays a good defensive two-way game and if I don't produce, I can help the team in different ways, to play good defense and be a shutdown winger." Eriksson has 580 points (244 goals, 336 assists) in 921 games with the Dallas Stars, Bruins and Canucks. "I don't know really what's going on behind the scenes, but it hasn't been working out the way it should have been in Vancouver for me," Eriksson said. Loui, old chap. You're clearly past your prime. Can you please stop the whining about your ice time and deployment and just do your job? I think it's safe to say if he DOES make the team, that he definitely won't be playing in a top-6, primarily offensive role. Clearly if he is lacking "confidence" then it's unlikely he'll perform well in training camp, it just seems like his head isn't really in the game here in Van city. Do you guys think Loui E will manage to crack the opening day roster? Or is it bags packed for Utica? (Or Sweden?) Jester13
I don't think he'll make the team due to play and contracts i.e. waiver eligible players. I think he'll be sent to the minors and loaned to Dallas' farm team, so I had to choose the Timmy's option for lack of options. 2
Hairy Kneel
Can't he just take his 36 million and go away? 1
Popular Post Ossi Vaananen
He's dead to me. Most of his contract is paid out and a majority of this year's pay was in a July 1st signing bonus. He can walk anytime and be a wealthy man... That one line of '76 points in 196 games with the Canucks' says it all. The guy didn't perform even close to his contract. That's on him. 2

Chris12345
He plays. Makes the third line on opening night somehow. Someone gets hurt in the preseason.

Its just not a 6 million dollar job anymore. He's actually done a good job of reinventing his game to the bottom 6 other than being physical, but he's 179 lbs and played his entire career in the top 6 before here, you're not going to get a lot of physicality out of that. 1

King Heffy
Not good enough. Still trying to make excuses for not only his pitiful excuse for effort as well as his ludicrously unprofessional interview. He simply is too stupid to figure out that his conduct isn't acceptable. Utica's press box is the appropriate spot for this piece of garbage until he realizes he has no spot on an NHL team and retires. 1 1
Popular Post EdgarM
I agree with Loui this thing has been way "overblown". He starts on the third line this year and is depth for the top 6 with maybe the chance of being traded later in the year. 2 3
Popular Post BertaNuck
Yup over blown, this what happens when you miss the playoffs and there is nothing to talk about media explodes the drama sorry Loui have a good year and kick ass! also i vote for this to be locked there is already one embarrassing thread that has gone on way to long Edited September 12, 2019 by Filthy McNasty 2 1 1
morgo
This whole thing has been completely overblown. I predict he starts on the third line and has a bounce back year. Eriksson got 63 points on a Bruins team on the verge of re-emerging as a contender. We have not been playoff team since he arrived but are clearly trending upwards. I'm going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, it's a new season.
'NucK™
Nothing ever got "overblown".... The guy is just a whiner and what he said back then wasn't really news, and still isn't now. 1 1

He's already proven he doesn't belong by playing like complete trash for 3 seasons and whining about the coach after he sent his useless arse to the pressbox where he belongs for one game. He's had more than enough chances to prove he's an NHLer and he's failed every single time. Enough is enough. 1 5
Popular Post DS4quality
I think the CDC is more whiney than Loui, most y'all just wanted more excuses to hate him. Nothing he said was wrong and Travis agreed with him. But don't let that stop the hate from the so called fans 2 3 4
