Mediocre Wild for years to come I don't know, but by my calculations, 14 goals last year would appear to be a career best, and so would 29 assists, as well as 43 points....so by that measure (production, something a lot of people reduced "better" to) - he'd appear to be getting "better." As for getting younger, I've never met a human that does. Finishing 11th in Norris voting aint all that bad either (not that it's a great 'metric'). Don't mistake this for an endorsement of his deal - the point is that people do this all the time - jump into threads, jump to conclusions, make assumptions - before looking at the outcomes the player is achieving. It doesn't hurt to look at the player's performance before judging their contract. Edited September 14, 2019 by oldnews 3
-AJ-
Spurgeon is excellent both defensively and offensively, but this is still a bit pricy.

I'd argue he has peaked and it's only down hill from here. 22 million invested in Spurgeon, Suter and Parise into their late 30s. Good players but you will never win a cup paying that money to those guys. 7 more years of minnesota mediocrity. Just good enough but never getting a lottery pick.

I think most people can see his body of work. Over 7 mil is defs an overpayment.

They were the team that allowed the least shots against from the inner slot last season according to SportslogIQ video tracking software. They were also the team that allowed the least mid-to-high scoring chances against according to MSG' Network's Valiquette's tracking company. That's a large part thanks to Spurgeon who carried the team defensively. Suter was playing on a hurt ankle and they lost Dumba in November. The year before with all 4Ds healthy - they had 200pts from their blue line. That was 2nd behind Nashville that season.
