Damn those Sharks and Bruins... I'd throw Boeser and Point into that best value category too.

Maybe you're right, but I think his linemates had a lot to do with his success. Of course most of those guys had good linemates, but to me he's a notch below Marner and Aho. How would you rate the top five forwards from that group? I think I'd go 1. Aho 2. Marner 3. Rantanen 4. Laine 5. Pointe or I might even swap Rantanen and Laine on that list.

Tkachuk Curious to know what makes Rantanen the top guy? I think the main thing is that he's has a couple of 80+ point seasons to show some consistency so far. However I think MacKinnon is the real driver of the line leading the team in points in both of those seasons by a fair margin. Marner has one high season with the addition of Tavares, but it's 90+ point and led his team. He's also a regular on the PK. I think Aho is surging up as well. Had a PPG season with much lesser linemates, plays some PK and is a center.

Aho is a hell of a player and if it wasn't for Marner’s defensive play I'd have Aho as number 2 on that list. You can’t really go wrong with any of those 3 in the top spot honestly. But for me the size, skill, and playoff performance of Rantanen gives him the lead and Marner’s defence edges Aho so far. They're close enough that this order will like change throughout the season though. 1

Aho (slightly below the guys above but better than the others) The rest are all fairly close in Tier 3 (other than a couple that would be a lower tier.) If Laine can figure out his consistency then he has the highest potential. Imagine last November type play throughout a season. For me, Point has the best contract, with Werenski and McAvoy also great deals. Boeser, Connor and Meir are team friendly. Rantanen is more or less fair, and would have expected Marner to get a similar contract to him. Over a million and half more a year is a big overpayment by the leafs.
WHL rocks
MacKinnon helping out Avs with his contract again. This is the max COL could pay Rantanen considering what Mac makes. Mac is best player on team no way they can pay Rantanen 10 mill while Mac making 6.3 Just like Matthews contract helped Marner get more.
cripplereh
the avs better hope he lights it up for years as that is high but for what he has done worth it for now

WHL rocks
This kid is a stud. Big boddy 6'4 ... plays C. Only 22 yrs old. Sakic signed a great deal. 6 yrs.. takes him to 28 right when he starts coming out of his prime. Can trade him for a boat load if needed in 5 yrs. Sakic best GM in NHL. Building a powerhouse. Got Girard to a great long term deal too this summer. 5 mill 7 more yrs after this. That kid will be worth 10 mill in 3 years. Damn those Sharks and Bruins... Labanc RFA drafted in 2014 - he had 56 pts. 1M x 1 year Connor is 7 years not 5. Most of those deals finish with the player either a UFA or 1 year to free agency save for Boeser, Laine, McAvoy and Labanc who each have at least 2 years to go before UFA.
*Buzzsaw*
Rantanen is a guy who has the physical presence to dominate in the playoffs. And he did in 2019... Sharks were lucky to get by the Av's last Spring. Marner is feisty, but all it takes is one hit. He was not that impressive in the playoffs in 2019... although maybe his linemates has something to do with that. Aho is special, and could be the best of the bunch.... although he is small too. But he was a stud in the playoffs in 2019.
