I’m not. I don’t think the little things he does right make up for his effort level. The league is changing and going younger and faster. Not sure how much longer we can still call him an NHLer for.

That may be true, but as of now he is still a serviceable NHLer

For me that's a no-brainer - you waive LE.  Or you deal them both to Deadmonton for Puljujaarvi.

I'd hate to deal Virtanen at this point, but if it translated into moving LE's cap and getting a project that the Coil have failed, perhaps.

To Coilerland: JV, LE

To Van:  JP, Sam Gagner lol

Did you just say Sam Gagner?

I really don’t want to give up on Virtanen but damn he better “get it” soon.

I dunno. I kind of think Sutter gets bumped to the wing again. Still feels like Sutter gets traded out sometime soon here. He doesn't seem to fit and that may be why Baertschi got waived in the first place too. With how injury prone he is, teams could want to see him into some games before they make a move for him. Gaudette earned 3rd line center duties, IMO.

With his developed 2 way play and face off prowess?

Agreed.

If people stop worrying about his contract or his offensive output, Louie is still a useful NHL player.

He was brought in and paid to score goals.  He has obviously failed miserably in this area but he still brings a lot to this team that others cannot.

+1

LE is obviously a useful NHLer, he's just overpaid for what he brings.

IMO the worst part about his contract is how every thread devolves into "durr, LE is the worst and needs to be waived/traded/boughtout/whatever."

yeah could be, I'd think Leivo would be most at risk, while Jake gets the best return (with AG being untouchable).

I think all the angst yesterday was over mistaken ideas over roles. We actually have guys that are good at their role, not guys we need to try to fit into jobs they aren't suited for. Yes, Schaller and Beagle are better on a 4th line than Baer. Its actually a good thing imo that we actually have guys suited to their jobs.

Which brings me to Jake... does he have a role on this team anymore thats suited to the skill set he's shown?

3rd line winger.  Crash the puck on both ends of the ice. Try for ugly goals.

He doesn't have a lot of finesse when pressured with the puck.

Hasn't really shown that he can do the 'shoulder down and push from the corner to the front' power move either.

30-40pt, energy guy,15-20 goal ceiling.

Jake needs good players with him, for he doesn't seem to elevate anyone else's game with his play style.

Comparable: Raffi Torres

Jake likes to pass it out from the corner. Gaudette likes to go to the front of the net.

Roussel Gaudette Jake   <----------- I want to see this line for five games. Please Mr. Coach man.

He played RW in junior. Put him there in the bigs too!

LE is like the built in, permanent, legacy apps on your phone that you can't delete, you can just bury them on the 4th page (line).

Still serviceable, and at times useful, but they eat up so much of your valuable app space.

edit - had to add the second pun.

He already had some of that. The way I see it, you can run it 3 scoring and one checking or you can run it 2 scoring and 2 checking. This could be one of those situations where Bo's unit (being a bit heavier) draws some more of the heavier checking duties, while still drawing top 6 duties. Bo, Pearson, and Miller is gonna be a pretty tough line for opponents to deal with this year. So then instead, we'd be looking at a line of Ferland-Gaudette-Virtanen, which could draw some favourable 4th line match ups and put up some points this year. Kind of like when Cody Hodgson did decently in 2012 with his value being pumped up with favourable matchups.

So did anyone actually pick up Baertschi, the guy with a ceiling of 25 goals and 50 points?  Didn't think so...

Not everyone is a Calder rookie like you, you know. Simmer down.

Well done JB and company. Credit where credit is due. They just snuck some quality depth through waivers. And in the process, they also massaged the cap within $167K of the upper limit, allowing for close to max LTIR on Roussel.

Yeah, but can they do stupendous magic with $13 million of LTIR like Lord Dubas?

This drives me crazy. So your argument with Jake is he needs to play with better players? Isn't it true that every player would be better if they played with better players? Maybe Jake playing like dead weight is just Jake......and maybe attaching that dead weight to a rising up and com'er isn't the best idea?
