ey40
I understand what Linden meant to the Canucks, but I started watching this team during the West Coast Express era and I really like Naslund. Each and every game when the Canucks were down a goal and Naslund got the puck, I had full confidence that he would get the tying goal, which most of the time he did. His line was so dominant at that time that it was a shame he could not bring the Canucks even to the Cup Final.

Popular Post Spankenstyne
Ever? Gotta be Belliveau. As for the Canucks, with all due respect to Linden and Hank, imo it's Smyl. Like the others mentioned he was franchise leader in games played, goals, assists, and points when he retired, records that stood for a decade after he retired. He was the first to have his Jersey in the rafters and captained the team to their first ever cup finals with a team that finished 41 points below the Islanders... I get that most here didn't get a chance to see him play in his prime, but he epitomized heart and soul & played a tough as nails game in a 5'7" frame (wiki says 5'8", clip below says 5'9", hockey db says 5'10'... He was 5'7"). Linden had some amazing moments as a Canuck and is still one of my all-time favourites, but Smyl at Linden's size would have been terrifying. There were never questions about his toughness, he was as hard nosed as they come and gave his all every shift & never hesitated to drop the mitts. One of my favourite moments was this fight vs a much larger and younger Gary Roberts, who at the time was early in his career and more fighter than goal scorer coming off 282 and 250 pim seasons. Always remember the "How strong is this guy" comment. Anyway, love all the choices but for me Smyl would be the captain on a Canucks dream team with all of the above mentioned choices. 1 1 1

Stan Smyl was one tough SOB. Gary Roberts was a big dude and he threw him to the ice like he was nothing. I was born in ‘85 so I only remember the 90s and up. Love seeing these old videos though. We had a scrappy team in those days. Lots of 80s Canucks featured on HockeyFights.com I wish we could go back and stream all those old Canucks games through history. I’d be watching one every night! McIlhargey the Lesser
During my Canucks watching lifetime (post Linden’s captaincy, 16-17 years or so) I have been supportive and proud of all the captains but I can’t say that any have personified the full captaincy package to my way of thinking. Bo might though. In that time frame around the league Iginla has, in my opinion, been the best captain.
