You have to be found guilty of speeding 3 times in an 18 month period to get your licence suspended in NY.  The operative words being "found guilty".  Most people plead "not guilty" and get their ticket reduced to a parking ticket, a fine, and sometimes driving school.  You actually have to try to get it suspended here.

Ya I think when it comes to safety to others the US ranks somewhere around Afghanistan.

MURICA!!

Well you can challenge the ticket in court then you won't lose your license until that's settled and if the officer doesn't show you will win by default, if he/she does show up ask the judge for leniency and use work as the number 1 reason.

Let's get a shady lawyer to help us.

@Jimmy McGill you out there?

I'll cost a lot more than the ticket

The brakes in my car cost more than most peoples $&!# bags. "excessive" speed is like weekend cruise.

Get a radar detector :) Escort is the best brand.

I hope this is just online "talk". Going fast is nothing to show off about in the city. Take that car onto the track.

Driving is a privilege and far too many people abuse that privilege IMO.  Speeding is an issue... but far behind tailgating, distracted driving and poor road knowledge. I feel like half the time I’m disctracted or tentative because other drivers are making stupid decisions.

People will pay fines and not change their driving habits; but if you require people to take a road test or classes for accidents and tickets, people will absolute change their habits. People value their time more than actual money.

There is an intersection at the local mall that has a 2 way stop with 3 points to enter the intersection. It’s at the point where it’s become a 3 way stop because half don’t notice, and the other half are too tentive to trust they know it’s a 2 way stop. This bothers me so much more than speeding.

I honesty don’t know what OP’s question is?

So much this. Everyone feels entitled to drive. It's total bs. You want the privilege of driving? Pay the true costs.

Don't forget it also varies from state to state and sometimes even region to region in the same state.  I doubt that NYC is anywhere near as forgiving as here in Western NY/Buffalo.  Here it's just mostly about the extra money they generate by pulling people over.

Same as Canada, it varies between Provinces. I was just giving you a hard time. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving.

Higher speeds cause more and worse crashes.

Totally. Speed affect amounts of accidents.  It increases slow down time, reduces a “safety net of g forces” and people predict your position on the road to what speed they are used to on said road.  If you’re turning right onto marine drive and cars are going 90 instead 50, it’s going to screw up people’s timing.

Well this happened to me 10 years ago but I only had a N then, but at the time failing to show your N was 3 points, so had a ticket for that but then got an excessive speeding ticket, as soon as I had 6 points bam they took my license away for 6 months, didn't impound my car, but every year after for 3 years on my birthday I had to pay a $300+ fine.

The fact that you got 6 points and both from excessive speeding, they should be taking your license away, and expect to pay for a few years after as well.

Maybe the Cocahalla should have no speed limit?  Add the Island highway too.  Have some roads where fast cars can give’r.

Make it a TV show too.  “Highways of speed, disaster, and death”.

I dont live in the city.

You're still driving like an idiot. Like I said, if you want to push your car a bit more, take it on the track. Nobody wants to get into accident because you &^@#ed up because of speed. There are zero good reasons for you to be "excessive" with your speed. If you're a bit over the speed limit, okay. It's not great, but okay. Excessive is something else. I'm not saying you're an idiot, but you're an idiot if you think this is acceptable under any circumstances, city or not.

I'm not doubting the distraction aspect but it should be noted that many accidents have speed noted "as a factor". Not stopping at a red light, for example. The driver could certainly be distracted AND speeding.

Just saying.

This bit gets me every time I see it

"accidents have speed noted "as a factor"

Has anybody, anywhere, at any time, ever seen an accident that involved two stationary vehicles?
