N7Nucks
Those draft pick stocks drying up in the Nevada desert. Only a 5th rounder at least. Lol.

Not sure what interpretation you made on "drying up" but it appears to differ from my own.
The Great 8
I find NHL trading of fringe players a little strange. A serviceable NHLer/ top line AHL guy is worth 5th round pick?! Basically you’re trading a fringe player for a 5% chance that the new player will play in the nhl..

We traded Raphael Diaz to the Rangers for a 5th round pick used to take Gaud. If other teams will take your fringe players, why not? 1

Twilight Sparkle
stephenson is good as a role player. he usually did well for the caps if they ran in to injuries. idk why get rid of him, but maybe the caps see someone that deep in the draft they're willing to risk it

The Capitals had to find cap space to activate him. All their roster players are waiver eligible other than D-man Siegenthaler and they are already down to 6 Ds and backup goalie Samsonov. It was likely lose him for nothing on waivers or get a draft pick.

Vegas looks to be 14th in the waiver order - they probably felt that there was a team ahead of them that would claim him.

Gaudette was drafted with a spare 5th round pick. Yeah, it’s a crapshoot you’ll get even a good AHLer at that point, but with this team’s excellent drafting...why wouldn’t you want more picks?
