The home I just bought is on oil, I'm now on the coast of BC.

Don't know how I feel about it.

Costs a tonne (both to upgrade and to remove the oil system) but....heat pump.

interesting, most of the province is hydro or natural gas. Maybe you can convert. When I was living in nova scotia it seemed like every house had a tank outside.

The government would tax the sunshine if they could,(oh you mean they just did).

they get all this money coming in and seem to be able to squander it away at a record pace, and it is never enough they have to build huge deficits.

People with money looking after the budget isn't really the best of ideas to begin with.

Sure glad they don't look after my bankbook,I'd be homeless just like so many good Canadian men, women, and children, and it's getting worse.

They want us to GO GREEN and then turn around and do despicable things like this.

Government is supposed to help it's people not tax them into poverty, they are truly LACKING MORALS.

I'm trying to learn more about it, have a gas fireplace and stove too....

Natural gas? That's helpful if it is. Propane's not bad but NG is better.

Is your oil system ducted?

yea, it does my general heating.

the Gas is on the fireplace and the stove.... I'm 'cooking with gas!'

Propane or NG?

Then you're laughing if you put a heat pump in. You can use the heat pump spring/fall and then heat more of the house/supplement with the fireplace (using the ducted heat pump system's fan to circulate the air) in the colder months.

Check for rebates too.

I know, me of all people. I have done a lot to reduce my carbon footprint...and now look at me!:frantic:

its OK, we know you're trying. Agent might be onto something with the rebates tho, sometimes they are really good.

Pretty sure it's NG. We're still getting sorted, been here for a couple weeks.

Thanks for the info/

I thought that most net zero homes sold excess electricity back to the grid during peak times... and then bought back electricity during times of poor generation........

Same.

This story is 2 years old. They covered this guy again in 2018 and also again this year. PEI introduced a 10% HST rebate. Not much but it's a start.

Unfortunately this guy is way ahead of everybody else and bureaucracy hasn't caught up to him yet.

I'm sure he can handle paying an extra $100 a year if he can afford $42k in renovations.

To my knowledge the issue has not been rectified. I'm pretty sure I posted this before.

The bolded-how very socialist of you.

Sucks for this dude, but if you make an exception for him...opens the door for other Richie Rich to take advantage of this opportunity.  Probably creates another loophole for the rich to get richer.

Huh?

Going along that line of thinking, should I be taxed for raking my lawn because I could have paid for a landscaper?

Or taxed on the food I grow / hunt? because I could have gone to the store?

He's developing his own energy...and it's clean energy. Shouldn't this be incentified instead of punished?

Maybe I don't understand what you are saying...
