Fantenberg has been solid.  I was impressed how he got involved in some of the scrums last night and didn’t back down.  Will be interesting to see what happens when Edler gets back.  Fant gives green some options..he could throw him in there without hesitation if one of the d is underperforming or needs a rest .

Fantenberg > Benn

I will be upset if he is taken out the lineup upon Eddie's return.

Well, think about if another team had a 6'1 226lb 23-year-old player with speed to burn, physicality, and a rocket of a shot playing only 12-14min per game but on a 20G/40P pace.  There would be PLENTY here demanding that Benning trade for him.

Why would we trade him then?

Sounds like a keeper.

Jake for Pool Party?  Too risky?

I will say this Alf,..  out in a limb with it, and I’m sure to get hacked and heckled, but here goes..

Jakes play is constantly provocative, his play is on a constant curve upward in improved play..  his skating, his optional  play thinking, his shot, his physicality ..  even to the point last night where he is helping crowd the aggression of a player like Reaves.

Jake is going to be a beast next season, he is starting to taste it.

This swing is not indifferent to the progression of a Bertuzzi or Neely.  I’m not saying he will get to that level, but I’m sure Green is working on giving him that opportunity when he is ready.  Jake is worth keeping 3 more years.

Guadette.   Man o’ man,  By the end of this season this young man will recognize his FULL potential.  I think he is FANTASTIC right now,.  But his full game and ceiling is untapped.

Boeser...    has he flatlined?.   Is his game well read to the opposition?
That curve to his best “game” and play seems to be on hold right now.

perhaps his Father is not doing well and there in lies a completely understandable  reason to this..

But RIGHT now,  ... and I am not wanting to trade any of these 3 players away,

But RIGHT now,  I would be moving Boeser for something substantial before Jake.

The biggest conundrum on this Team is legitimately the Eriksson situation.

6m in cap holds a complete, contributing player to this Team that could compliment any of the 3 players above, and the Canucks Team.

add,  Bartschi and the Luongo Hack,  the grand total lies around 12m.

ps.  Or situation is pragmatically one that has to “play out”.   Any moves other than the ones to players that have become redundant to us,  will be regrettable.

I guess Center Ice in California gets a different feed than up north.

Stats thru last night ... Jake:

Leads the team in hits with 55 (in hits/60 mins, trails Motte, Ferland, MacEwen and Roussel)

Leads the team in takeaways per 60 mins of ice time at 2.71

Among forwards, has fewer giveaways than Miller, Boeser, Pearson, Horvat. Petterson and Leivo (and, yes, he is on the ice less. In giveaways per 60 mins of ice time Roussel, MacEwen, Graovac. Miller and Pearson have had more)

These stats don't lie - I think you should change channels to get Center Ice

Who is going to have more hits? Edler, Motte, Ferland and Roussel have all been out for long periods of time this year. Virtanen doesn't have any memorable hits this year. It's clear you don't even watch games and just look at stat sheets. Motte has 32 hits in 9 freaking games. Virtanen is suppose to be a big bodied power-forward and he is anything but that. He is soft and scared of scrums. You don't need to fight to get involved in a scrum.

Do they both play the same side though?

Fantenberg is currently filling in for Edler on the left side, so yes as Benn is also a LD. However both Fantenberg and Benn have been noted to be able to play both sides. I can't see who else would sit when Edler returns other than the guy that was designated at the 7th dman. Will be interesting to see what happens. The only certainty is Green will be bashed for whatever decision is made.

I'm sure Green has had all of these Virtanen thoughts above, and thus controls his minutes knowing he's still developing and has said over and over he is moving in the right direction this year.

He was pretty frustrated with him last year calling him out, and as well this training camp.

Since then, and especially last 10 games it feels like the switch was turned on, and he's understanding his game better. His passing is the biggest improvement i've seen, along with his consistency.

Not quite top 6 but after resigning myself to thinking of him as having a ceiling of a third liner with some offensive upside,  he's showing more patience with the puck to fit in to the top 6.

he stills makes some slashing and chippy boneheaded plays, including last night where he could have called a couple times,  but improving there as Green gives him the tough love he needs.

he's like an tweener power forward right now still learning his craft

Jake is was a top 10 talent based off his phyical attributes alone, you CANNOT teach size with that kind of speed

Jake had 1 hit last night, not good enough for a big guy, Horvat had no hits  and he is a big guy too, Motte in his first game back the other night had 11 hits for a small guy, Pettersson even hits, it seem the big guys shy away from hits

What is it about Green/Baumer's defensive system that is so bad?  If you ask me it wants players to play to their strengths/make high percentage plays.  It certainly doesn't strike me as a rigid system IMO.

way too many shots allowed, it was a problem last year and its becoming a problem again this year. Far too much open ice for teams to get in and get shots on. Marky won't be able to stop 40 per night all year.

I don't like how they're using Myers now either, he was much better paired with Hughes. Myers needs to be skating with the puck, when he's forced to collapse back he makes a lot more mistakes. So on the playing to strengths point, I think he's blowing it with Myers and Fantenberg together. I get that they have to make up for the loss of Edler, but he's doing that by using Hughes for too many minutes, that kids going to get injured.

We also have guys on the roster that can close out games, but for some reason Green can't get them in a position to do that.

are you kidding, did you not see the perfect pass Boeser sent to Petey last night, Boeser has 34 points and is 2nd on the team in points.  Jake is ok but not near a first or second liner , he belongs on the 3rd. and he was okay last night, not brilliant!!!!

Jake is working his way to top 6 minutes, if he keeps this up he'll get there next year.

But yeah that pass from Boes was something. Thats why you don't split up a line like that, even when one guy is struggling a little bit.

Disappointing to give a division rival a point so late in the game, but at this point, a win is a win....

Although it was great to see Petey with a brace, I agree with what Cheech said: The 1st unit is too tentative right now. On one of the PP's Petey had a solid look with either Brock or Bo open in front, but chose not to try and thread it through the one defender in front of him. It was basically a diagonal version of the play Bo made to Tanev to win the game, but Petey was reluctant to try it. Instead, we saw the obligatory 2 dozen passes back and forth, before Hughes ultimately decides that he might as well try a low percentage shot, because nobody is close to getting open...

The early season PP didn't play with this hesitation and I'm not at all surprised that the second unit was better than the first last night. My one hope is that the laser that Petey rang off the post in the last PP makes him decide to try shooting more often.

Regarding the refs: I agree that there were two brutal missed calls last night and the one on Holden was especially egregious....but...

The Canucks had 5 advantages to the Knights' 1. Zebras are always going to be reluctant to pile on more than that. We all hate "game management" but it's a reality in the NHL and has been forever.

Totally agree with the majority on Fantenberg. He's been a very pleasant surprise and should stay in the lineup over Benn or Stecher. (I'd sit Stecher and keep Benn's size in the lineup myself)

Bring on the Pens! :towel:

And the heavy body play by boeser on the boards before Miller drive the net and Perry scored

there is other details to brocks game that people are missing
