Want to point something out.  The Canucks are 2-2 the past four games, the first two we should have won as we were the better team, Vegas we shouldn't have and PIT was wash ... zero shots one period against - then 20 is 10 on average and then a pretty even 3rd.   The point is this team can play with anyone.  We haven't lost many games all year where we were completely out of it (there has been a couple though) and for the most part we are on an equal footing no matter whom we've played.   It's likely part of the reason so many games go to OT.   We are right now close to the middle of the pack compared to the entire league as far as actual play goes - our offense is above average - our defense a little below (but only with Edler out).

We are definitely at a pivotal point in the season .... what happens in January will likely seal our playoff fate either way...it's an exciting time to be a fan.   JV looks to be that top six player JB is looking for.   If he can grab the spot and keep our second PP unit working (Myers and AG too) that's all the difference this team needs in turning the corner.   The corner is definitely within reach.   I doubt this team has a losing streak in it without a complete rash of injuries - and when Edler is back watch out.   This team is on pace to have a few 30 goal scorers, and up to 7 20 goal scorers.  AG, JV, Pearson, Horvat, Miller, EP and BB.   That's really something.   Wonder what the team record is for 20 goal scorers?  Must be the Linden teams...and those teams won more playoff games then anyone else.  Can't wait to wave a towel again, even if it's from my family room

Great points, if JV keeps improving then his cap will become more significant (but good on JV)  At this point and after the rough stretch, I am just hoping for wins - any type - cause this team needs to continue learning: how to win as a team.  GCG !

Some late comments.

1. It is amazing how quickly things change in the NHL. Five days ago, a lot of people were down on the Canucks, as it looked like playoff hopes were fading away. But after two wins against very good teams, the Canucks are back in the thick of the playoff race and there is reason for optimism again. Its a long season with ups and downs. You never know whats going on in the dressing room, Flu, burn out etc.

2. So tonight's win was a feel-good win with a lot of impressive performances. But, the Canucks were fortunate to win. Obviously the shots favored Pittsburgh, and so did the high-danger chances and Corsi numbers (although I thought the Canuck shots were undercounted in the first period). In any case, the Canucks certainly had a good defensive first period, preventing Pttsburgh from getting any shots. Drawing power plays helps your shots against. Its a tribute to the pressure, fore-check and Offensive ability of the team today versus Last year. Miller has helped a lot here as well as a few maturing players.Quinn Hughes also cannot be understated here

3. The Canucks were just hanging on in the second period, as Pittsburgh outshot the Canucks 20-6. Marky was great (again). I had him as the MVP of tonight's game (again). Marky is often the MVP of the game its not a new thing. 1-0 Shut out vs Carolina. When they are not on they look very bad. When they are on the look very good. They are a young team learning and this will go one for a few more years as they add Podz, Madden, Woo etc

4. Virtanen is getting a lot of praise on CDC tonight. He scored a nice goal on a great shot and made some big hits. It was great to see him making life difficult for Malkin. Initially Green started Erkisson with Horvat and Pearson as the shutdown line against Malkin but Jake ended up taking Eriksson's place for much of the third, and for good reason. Jake had an excellent game and Louie had his usual nothing game. The panel was emphasizing how valuable Jake would be if he could play like this consistently. Jake looks like a pretty good bet to get to 20 goals this year. That would be real validation for him. And Jake must have gained some fans in his after hours interview, which was very good. At what point do the Jake haters go away. Is it 15 goals? 20? 50? The kid has grown every year. He is getting better and knowledgable fans can see it. There are always going to be some kids that take longer to get it. Bertuzzi was one. We benefited from NYI impatience there and from ours with Jake.

5.After Marky, EP was the star of the game for me. His skill level is so impressive. His goal was just a great shot. Not many player in the NHL can make that shot. And his set-up of Boeser was another classic EP play: great hustle, great vision (or hockey IQ), and of a course a well-executed pass. No one doubting Peteys effort, his talent, or his want to win. If he can learn to conserve energy ala Gretzky he will become a very elite player.

6. The first line was very good in general. They were the only Canuck line with a positive net Corsi. Miller and EP were excellent. To me, Boeser still looks slightly off, but his goal was huge and was a great shot. Both the EP goal and the Boeser goal were against the run of the play and obviously they were crucially important. How many times have we seen the Canucks have the run of the play and get scored on, especially the dreaded save at one end and then the puck ends up in our net. Its nice to see us getting the bounces a few times.

6. Myers' offence has been disappointing this season but he is becoming more assertive offensively and, with a couple of assists tonight, is up to 10 pts for the season. While the Canucks really miss Edler, the one slight silver lining is that, with Edler out, Myers is trying to do more offensively. Myers had a very good game tonight overall. Myers has struggled more than a few games this year. Like any other player he has weaknesses and strengths. When Edler is out he is the go to guy for PK and plays against the better players from the other teams. He gives the puck away more than he should. TG should go to him and say off the glass and out. Every time he tries to make a play in his own end he finds the opposition stick. KISS keep it simple.

7. If the Canucks can get just beat Edmonton on Monday, the Canucks (and Canuck fans) can go into the Christmas break feeling pretty good.  I always want us to beat the Oilers and Flames regardless of what time of year. We need the divisional points and of course I am not a fan of either team. Would have liked to see us beat Toronto and Montreal also but it didn't happen. Lets keep this roll going.

Replied to your points in bold. Not really a argument but adding on. M

Was Myers wearing an "A" last night?  He played well last night IMO.

Agree was one play he was headed off on a change and we turned the puck over in the offensive zone and realized his man was open and he beelined back to cover him and changed when Pitt turned it over. Heads up read on that play.

Bo and Virt make such a good duo together.  Both skate with speed, use their big bodies to gain position, and seem to really understand how to play off one another.

They did a great job tag teaming on Malkin to shut him down.

Keep those two together.  Could be our two way shut down line right there.

I don't understand... if they did a good defensive job on Malkin on different lines, why put them together?

Loui Bo Pearson is the line you were thinking.

Jake Gaud Rous is the line he was on last night.

Yeah, JV seems to click with Gaud and Rooster - The TURD LINE !!!!!  I just hope Green can keep this line together but ultimately, it will still come down to these three showing the coaches that they should be kept togehter..

Why is it Jake Guad and rooster sounds like a second line more then Loui Bo Pearson..., sounds more like a third line....I know this might get me flamed but if Guad and Jake keep going , they will be second line in my books and maybe moving Bo down might help him out cause his points usually come from his strong two way game and would allow him to focus on D instead of putting so much pressure to put up points might help him get going....

I think BO may become more of the shutdown C role while Gaudette may become more of the offensive C role.  Can't really say who will be 2C versus 3C but it doesn't matter really.  As long as we have 3 strong lines that can score that is all that matters.  But I do agree Virtanen may be a better fit with BO in order to play that shutdown role and play against the likes of Malkin.  I'm thinking you can even switch BO and Gaudette and have BO centre Roussel and Virtanen and then find some new linemates for Gaudette.  Pearson can be one and then we need to make a trade for another.  Or we bring up Kole Lind and see what he can do.

Can get after hours ... any chance you could tell the story?

The boys were beside the Fraser river in Chilliwack in early January. There was ice on the road and the truck they were in slipped and went into the freezing water.  both boys didn't survive.

shocked the whole high school and city for sure.

That line since being put together is probably our best two way line and all three are a pest to play against.

Green would be a fool to break them up.

Is that possession?

no its everyones time they were on the ice. Its a great chart, you can see the decision making as the games go along and its a good self-check for your own eye test theories.
