Can someone explain what this loaning players to your own AHL team is all about?

Is this like a conditioning stint, and avoids waivers?

I saw Chatfield on loan to the Comets.

TSN states Toronto loaned some players to the Marlies.

Any idea why they just don't say assigned to the AHL team?

It's the same thing.  Every NHL contract belongs to the main team and every assignment to another league is a loan.

Anyone else catch Torts post game interview?

Werenski scored at the horn - the goal would have counted if the refs had added that missing second.  They would have won the game and Korpisalo wouldn't have been injured in the shootout.  He needed help of the ice.  Korpisalo has been playing really well lately.

Odd that it happened in their own rink though, usually the home team benefits.  Isn't there an official timekeeper though?  So what was the official time left on the clock because the scoreboard one is not official?  If it was 18.1 sec then Torts can't really argue it, but that should have been made clear to him before the next puck drop.

It’s not just that Korp has been playing very well. They haven’t won a single game with their backup Merzlikins in net (0-4-4).

Love Torts’ passion.  He always has that, and wants his players to play with that level of passion too.  His year here was bad, but he did call out our core as old and stale (lacking passion) and he was right.
