mll
NBC is the main sponsor and have the biggest say - they are obviously going to privilege a US location to host the event. It's all about sponsorship and ratings. Although the Jets are in consideration it wouldn't be all that surprising if they play another US based team. Winnipeg and the Wild hate each other but not sure the rivalry is appealing enough for NBC and their US audience. Russo believes St Louis is the most likely opponent. Colorado is playing an outdoor game later this year, Dallas/Nashville just did and Chicago has already played in so many. Not sure they'll select a team outside of the Central as there's no real rivalry. Target Field has less than half the capacity of the Cotton Bowl - 39'000 vs 85'630 in attendance today. The intention is to make it a weeklong event as they need to make up for the drop-off in ticket revenue.
6string
In Bettman's world a Heritage Classic with a Toronto/Montreal matchup is so far removed from his radar it's insulting.

Why would NBC want to promote a Canadian matchup - their target audience is the US market. They are the main sponsors of the event. Teams have to bid for the event and convince the sponsors that they are worthy to organise the event. The Wild have apparently been trying for years to get the event. rekker
Minny should be playing Winnipeg in this game. Guess the draw of the American tv audience wins this one.

It's apparently their preferred opponent if the Wild had their choice but St Louis is believed to be the front runner per Russo. Winnipeg also just hosted a Heritage Classic earlier this season. Not sure any team has played outdoor games in consecutive seasons.
ruilin96
Minnesota vs. Winnipeg Minnesota vs. Colorado Minnesota vs. Chicago Please don't make it Minnesota vs. Vancouver. Outdoor games are more of a gimmick, and I rather the Canucks can just focus on regular hockey. Although, I do see the Canucks playing a global-series game in Sweden at some point because of how dominant EP has been in the league and he is a Swede. I could see Vancouver plays 2 games in Sweden against an Eastern Conference opponent at some point.
