Iranian Major-General Qassem Soleimani, head of the elite Quds Force, and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were killed early on Friday in an air strike on their convoy at Baghdad airport, an Iraqi militia spokesman told Reuters.

“The American and Israeli enemy is responsible for killing the mujahideen Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Qassem Soleimani,” said Ahmed al-Assadi, a spokesman for Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces umbrella grouping of Iran-backed militias.

U.S. officials told Reuters that strikes had been carried out against two targets linked to Iran in Baghdad.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, declined to give any further details.

Three rockets hit Baghdad International Airport, killing five members of Iraqi paramilitary groups and two “guests”, Iraqi paramilitary groups said on Friday.

The rockets landed near the air cargo terminal, burning two vehicles, killing and injuring several people.

Supporters of Iranian-backed Iraqi paramilitary groups stormed the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday following U.S. air raids on Sunday against Kataib Hezbollah militia bases in retaliation for missile attacks that killed a U.S. contractor in northern Iraq last week.

Tension between the United States and Iran has ramped up in the region over U.S. economic sanctions hurting the Iranian economy. The two sides have traded blame over attacks on oil installations, militia arms depots as well as military bases hosting U.S. forces.

so i guess now the iranians will respond?

which side will be more stupid?

exactly why did trump cancel/withdraw from the treaty with Iran?

maga ?

Of course they will respond. Of course there will be escalation. This is most likely now a proxy war with Russia backing Iran.

Who will be more stupid? Hard to say. Trump wanted to avoid getting into more wars. Now he's got one.

The plan was to withdraw from the JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal) then place Iran under crippling sanctions and force them back to the negotiating table to make a better deal than Obama made. However, Iran has refused to negotiate without sanctions relief. Usually replying with something to the effect of "go eat a d*ck"

It's a huge cluster frack. And you have this situation.

Qassem Soleimani is a huge deal in Iran and the region.

Iran has consistently threatened to rip out the "cancer" of Israel from the Middle East. Iran refers to America as the "Great Satan" and Israel as his offspring. For the last 75 years, Iran has made these threats. Under the nuclear deal, Obama chose the policy of appeasement and so he Iran 150 Billion dollars to Iran, promising many sanctions would be lifted so they could continue their nuclear enrichment activities...all for national "energy" purposes of course.

Iran doesn't want peace with the US or Israel, they want "Islamic" peace with the US and Israel subjugated under Islamic Sharia law. That will NEVER happen and tonight is just the start of what is sure to turn into a clash of civilizations, the 21 century civilization vs 17th century civilization.

North Korea's official newspaper Rodong Sinmun

  • said Friday that any attempt to infringe upon NK's dignity and survival should be met by an "immediate and powerful" strike
  •  calling for all-out efforts to build up its national defense capability
"An action that would violate our republic's dignity and survival should be met by an immediate and powerful strike"
"(We) should maintain invincible military power and beef it up,"
"It is the core initiative of our party's national defense building to make no one dare to think about using military power against us. We should marshal all resources of our country for defense-building efforts."

Trump has no foreign policy.... his policy is pulled out of his backside on impulse.

I would not be surprised to see the Iraqis tell the US get all its soldiers out of Iraq very soon.

If that happens, then all the 5000+ dead Americans who died kicking Saddam Hussein out and installing a pro-US regime in Iraq will have been for nothing.

Trump will have handed the keys to Iraq right to to the Iranians.

Yeah, sure, because the US will listen to the Iraqis when they throw their shoes and yell "death to America" for the umpteenth time this week.

Stole this, it came accompanied with the caption "Nostradumbass".

He's a clown.  Always has been.  Always will be.  There's a past tweet for pretty much everything he does.  That's what happens when you throw feces at a wall for years on end while hoping something sticks.
