Vegas Golden Knights. Gerard Gallant fired

Vegas is a little spoiled, getting to the SCF in their first year, one of the top teams the year after.

The first sign of the idea of missing the playoffs and they fire the coach. Are they afraid people won't show up if they're losing? C'mon! This is Vegas baby! People go to the games, go to the shows, go to have a good time... Not sure many who attend Knights games (tourists?) care much about a few losses. They built it, the people will go. Firing Gallant makes no sense to me. Maybe some internal conflicts in the Knights org?

I expect there will be more to this story.

Agreed.  They fire Gallant and Kelly and simultaneously hire DeBoer.  Usually the Assistant Coach steps - in this sounds odd.  It's not like Vegas was on a huge losing streak or out of the playoff picture.  All of this takes some planning/negotiating and a pretty good reason.

Seems the organization has some unrealistic expectations after all.

"In order for our team to reach its full potential, we determined a coaching change was necessary. Our team is capable of more than we have demonstrated this season," said Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon. "We would like to thank Gerard and Mike for their service to the Vegas Golden Knights. They were both instrumental to the success we have enjoyed in our first two-plus seasons and we wish them all the best moving forward. In Peter DeBoer, we have a proven, experienced head coach who we believe can help us achieve our ultimate goal. We are excited to welcome Peter and his family to the Vegas Golden Knights organization. We look forward to a strong finish to the 2019-20 season with Peter at the helm and a successful tenure in the seasons to come."

Gallant is a great coach that always gets the best from his players.

I think Vegas will regret this move in the year down the road once they enter the coaching carousel and see that great coaches only come available every so often

Rule out Dallas, they're committed to keeping Bowness for the rest of the year. No head coach decision until summer.

That was before Gallant became available.  If they are interested and wait - he might no longer be available.

They have only been playing for 2 plus seasons but fired both coaches anyway?

Then put out this part of the statement "They were both instrumental to the success we have enjoyed in our first two-plus seasons "

So gas two instrumental pieces of your past and current success.

Weird.

No doubt they are 3 points out of first in the division and top 3 in most categories league wide. Only their goaltending and their penalty kill have let them down. And those two go hand in hand. Dumb move.

And this might be good for us as Vegas might not be as good going forward.

Hire Gallant as an Assistant coach or special teams coach for now and use next year as a benchmark then promote him if Greener isn't getting it done.

There are 4 teams with interim coaches + Blashill and Boudreau are in the last year of their deals - so 6 open positions for next season and 1 more in Seattle.    Seems unnecessary for him to go the assistant route.  He is still under contract another year.
