HKSR
https://www.tsn.ca/countdown-to-tradecentre-buffalo-sabres-ready-to-buy-minnesota-wild-set-to-sell-1.1428856 The Wild are selling and Dumba is potentially available. Young defencemen like this don't come around often. A couple trades to make this work: To VAN: Kapanen To TOR: Tanev Toronto gets an excellent shut down defenceman for their playoff push and potential run in the playoffs. They also need to make some cap space, and reality is Kapanen is stuck behind that forward depth. Canucks get a hard to play against forward that can put up 20+ goals. To VAN: Dumba To MIN: Boeser Jasek or Lind Canucks get the guy to pair with Hughes long term. They now have a legit top pair. Edler and Myers make up the 2nd pairing. That's a solid Top 4 right there. All of them capable of chewing up some big minutes. They lose Boeser, but with the emergence of Virtanen, and as Brock played on the 3rd line yesterday, a guy like Kapanen would make a lot more sense in that role. Minnesota brings home their boy in Boeser and acquires a high quality prospect in either Lind or Jasek for their rebuild.
Provost
Like the idea, but Toronto probably cuts out the middle man and dead directly with Minnesota. Toronto would need to send cap our way to make that work and the. We would also have to send cap Minnesota’s way to make it work.
Fanuck
Much rather keep BB and any other pick someone would throw in and just wait and see if Rafferty can make the jump in a season (or two at the most) - the kid looks like a real gem right now. People need to ask themselves why Minny, with really no real cap issues right now, are trying to get rid of a young PMD in his prime on a locked-in contract when they really don't have any young RHD in their system with any real potential to replace him?

Deployment 2. Dumba likely requesting to be moved With them recently extending Jared Spurgeon, who’s a phenomenal puck moving defenseman, the Wild are in a scenario where they have two #2 RHD, but only one spot for them. Both likely want to be playing big minutes, but there’s only so much to go around. Therefore, moving one only makes sense, especially for the player. In this case, the return on Dumba would be a hell of a lot higher than a return on Spurgeon would be, considering age and historical production.

Spurgeon and Dumba have been teammates ever since Dumba made the league - ice time distribution has never been brought up and has in fact been fairly equal between both the two previous seasons. This season Dumba has struggled but they are still equal in ice time. Spurgeon plays more on the D side and Dumba on the offensive side. It's the emergence of Soucy. He has been a revelation this year - even caught management by surprise. He filled in the top-4 when Spurgeon was injured and did really well. The Wild need to add high end talent and Dumba is a piece that can bring them one. Given their weakness at top-6 C could see more of a trade from a position of strength to fill a position of need - similar to Jones for Johansen. Guerin identified the need of a C1 early in the season. They don't even have a solution at C2 for next season. Koivu at this point of his career is no longer a C2 - they might not even bring him back. Staal has 1 year left and is now more a C2 than a C1. They could also end up moving Brodin instead of Dumba - lots of teams calling on him apparently. Guerin calls their D-corps elite - don't think he'd move both as it would weaken their top-4. Soucy can play both sides. Edited January 18, 2020 by mll
