Scoop up Schenn, Benning. DO IT!!!!

I was thinking about him a month ago, I miss his toughness on D and the occasional crushing hit. Fantenberg and Benn have been OK but they don't provide the same element. Undecided if I would give one of them up to scoop him up though.

Seems like just the other day the Canucks tried to sign Backes as an RFA.

I thought the rumor was that Gillis almost traded Schneider for him??

That move could have been the difference in us getting a cup.

In his prime David Backes was a tough and solid hockey player, and not having Schneider would have meant no goalie controversy, Luongo should have always been our guy. That move could have changed Gillis' fate as a GM had it gone through.

Oh well, no Schneider means no Horvat though today.

Water under the bridge.

Signing Backes as an RFA would have been great. He was very effective in St. Louis.

Signing him to the long-term UFA contract though - yeah, that would have sucked. That said, I'd trade Eriksson for him! Not because Backes is better - Eriksson has actually been decent lately - but just to get rid of the extra year of term. A buyout in June for DB would only be a $2M cap hit next year, and $1M in 2021-22.

I would, without even blinking. He's a tank.
