(Proposal) Nucks - Jackets

Recommended Posts

We're fleecing the Jackets pretty hard.

Why no for Columbus

- Bjorkstrand's their young top line right wing, on pace for almost 50 points in 63 games, and signed for one more year for $2.5 million

- Nyquist is also on pace for another 50 point season and is signed for 3 more years at $5.5 million

- Gavrikov's a top-4 left side D-man who looks to have solid upside all-around and is a cost-controlled pending RFA who can't be offer sheeted

- Leivo's a pending UFA they could sign and not much more than a 35-40 point guy, and he and Roussel would be downgrades from the guys they give up

- Roussel is having a down year after setting career highs last season and he's also 30 years old

- Myers wouldn't be an upgrade on either their all-star Seth Jones or David Savard, who's a solid D-man in his own right

Why no for Vancouver

- We're set for wingers and left side D-men.  From a skill perspective we have Boeser, Pearson and Hughes already playing the roles these acquisitions would play

- Myers is signed for 5 years at $6.6 million per, and is playing pretty well as a needed right side D-man

- Leivo has been having a solid season and has had chemistry with guys throughout the lineup, so his versatility is helpful

- For playoff runs we will probably need Roussel's agitating abilities, plus we don't know what we have in Ferland (damaged asset?)

- Myers has the ability to log big minutes, plus he's been tasked to run the 2nd PP from the point

- Not wise to ruin team chemistry when things are going well

Why do Myers and Roussel both waive their limited NTCs?

More then likely they won’t waive. But I like the idea of opening up some cap room in years to come. Aswell adding these players that can give us an edge for playoffs, without loosing to much on the back end with the added offence. Gravikov a solid dman whos also a plus player. who knows maybe they do... jackets have a good team also. But Jackets prolly decline anyways lol.

How about:

To Columbus:

Eriksson

2020 4th round pick

2021 2nd round pick

To Vancouver:

2020 5th round pick

In summer, we find a new home for Baerstchi, either by retaining 25% of his current contract for his remaining year, or we buy him out with a cap hit of 1.767 for 20/21 and 800k for 2022.

Problem solved on any perceived cap space issues.

I don't think Columbus is fully into rebuild mode.

Make that deal with OTT and it will be snapped up quickly before JB can reconsider.

Lol

I don't think Columbus is fully into rebuild mode either, but they do have cap space, which is a rare commodity in the NHL right now.

Personally, you're probably right about Ottawa being a better target for this type of trade, but since this is a Van - Columbus trade thread, I thought I'd present something that I thought might benefit both teams.

Considering Columbus lost about 13 million last year, and that they are still recovering from pushing hard last year, they might appreciate a couple of extra draft picks and a player who is defensively responsible and who eats up a significant portion of cap but doesn't cost much in hard dollars. Would let Eriksson burn out the last 2 years of his contract.

Columbus is 3rd in the Metro.  They likely care far more about winning than a few draft picks.  No reason for them to add Eriksson.

It would probably cost significantly more than that to move Eriksson.  Teams know very well that the Canucks are cap strapped.  They know that Pettersson/Hughes have hit their schedule A and there's only 30K for now to pay them out this season and avoid an overage.

Okay, so you're aware that although his cap hit is 6 million, but that his actual take home salary is now substantially less than that, right?

So, as a team, they eat up much more cap space than they actually have to spend.
