[Proposal] Demko + Eriksson to Ottawa for Craig Anderson

Recommended Posts

People aren’t going to like this proposal for obvious reasons, but the truth of the matter is that

1) the Canucks will need to add in a sweetener if they intend to move Eriksson.

2) the Canucks will inevitably have to choose between Markstrom and Demko.
3) There is no guarantee that Eriksson retires after this season even after collecting his bonus.

The Senators get their goalie of the future (Sens have some goalie prospects but Demko is significantly better), while the Canucks rid themselves of the Eriksson contract which would allow them to comfortably re-sign all of Tanev, Markstrom, and Virtanen.   Anderson will be off the books at the end of the season.

Miller-Pettersson-Boeser

Pearson-Horvat-Sutter

Roussel-Gaudette-Virtanen

Ferland-Beagle-Motte

Edler-Stecher

Hughes-Tanev

Fantenberg-Myers

Markstrom

Anderson

Nice suggestion. How 'bout they add Colin White, & we add Gaudette?

(they need to retain on Andy, prob to shoehorn this deal)

After buying out White(June 2021 perhaps), you're whacking 10,000,000 off the 2021-22 cap!!!

edit: It actually almost fits now, cap-wise. But we should add one more redundant contract, like Baer to make this worthwhile

why do you think the nucks have to choose between demko and marky?

they can use a top tier tandem

do you know how many goalies will be exposed for the expansion draft?

every team has to expose 1 - so that is 30

there will be so many quality goalies exposed

how many do you really think seattle will be taking?

i'm thinking 3

2 established goalies and 1 prospect

vegas took how many? 5 or 6? and they got nothing for them

they had very little trade value

seattle will be looking more to draft extra dmen that they can then flip in trades

Because we dont have cap of 9-10mil to afford 2 good goalies?

you are silly

the team is in a good cap position to resign it's goalies

the cap is increasing every year

most teams pay 10% of the cap for their goalie position

by the time demko is up

salary cap will be 85 to 90 million

I won't be surprised to see LE retire July 2, 2020.

Why would he retire?  Easy money playing on a team that is now winning & looking to be playoff bound.  Would be different if we were in yet ANOTHER lottery pick season.  Where else can you find a job where you're in a good environment (as I said, team is winning now) and you get paid millions & not break a sweat?

Why do so many people think our only choice is to trade one of Marky/Demko?

We don’t have to trade either, but last summer JB said he had a plan in place to recoup the first he gave up to get Miller.  Other than Demko which player do we have that’s worth a first and we have depth so he’s not missed?  Demko at the 2020 draft for a late first.  Gonna happen.

The thing is we actually don’t. Just give Seattle a good pick and/or prospect to get them to take someone other than a goalie.
