It’s a Good time of year after a bad loss to the Ducks to determine are you a hard core Canucks Loyalist who doesn’t care about the odds. It’s a Ride or Die mentality for this fan or are you a statistician hockey Fanatic ( Possibly a Canuck Fan ) who can’t ignore logic.

I'll be surprised if the NHL gives the Calder to a Canuck two years in a row, but you never know. Hughes is clearly the best rookie. Markstrom has been a Hart candidate for the Canucks, but he'll only be considered for that if they go Top 3 in the Conference IMO.

Bold Predictions: Markstrom is nominated for the Vezina, but loses to Vasilevsky. Hughes wins the Calder. The Canucks won't win the Pacific, but will get into the playoffs and go 7 games in the 1st Round, before losing to EDM. Darnel Nurse is the difference. NJ will end up with the #22 OA.

Of course we're going to win the cup.

All the other teams injuries line up perfectly for us, Calgary and Edmonton destroy each other in the 1st round leaving an easy husk of a team to beat, and we meet Boston in the finals. But just prior to game 1, Marchand has a tragic autoerotic mishap, Chara pulls a back muscle picking up a cracker and Pasternak ends up in a Mexican prison somehow.

When was the last time an NHL team had back to back Calder trophy winners ?

Even more interesting. When was the last time an NHL team had players nominated three years in a row for the Calder?

Avs had 2 Calder winners in 3 years:

2012- Landeskog

2014- Mac

Panthers also had 2 winners in 3 years:

2013- Huberdeau

2015- Ekblad

Calgary had 3 winners in 5 years:

1986- Gary Suter

1988- Nieuwendyk

1990- Makarov (31 year old rookie at the time before the rule change)

There have been a couple of other occasions where teams had 2 runner ups in consecutive years.

But there hasn't been an occasion since 1980's where one team generated 2 winners in consecutive years.

EDIT:

Last back-to-back winners were from Boston

1967- Bobby Orr

1968- Derek Sanderson

Last 3 peat were from Toronto

1943- Gaye Stewart

1944- Gus Bodnar

1945- Frank McCool

Just few years before that, Montreal started their 4 consecutive winner/ runner ups.

1941- Johnny Quilty (winner)

1942- Buddy O'Connor (runner up)

1943- Glenn Harmon (runner up)

1944- Bill Durman (runner up)

Most recent 3 consecutive winner/ runner ups, though, was from Toronto

1957- Ed Chadwick (runner up)

1958- Frank Mahovlich (winner) *[runner up this year was Bobby Hull]

1959- Carl Brewer (runner up)

I don’t care about the pacific title...it’s so close that first and third are basically the same thing. I want to see playoffs so therefor I believe. Will we win the cup?  The homer in me says yes, but realistically speaking I’ll be happy seeing at least 6 games of playoffs action to teach the young’uns what it’s like. Strongly believe that our real window opens next year...there is some cap juggling to do but many exciting things to come. I don’t believe Tram is a saviour but he is a big piece, as are Hogs and Podz

Yes we win the title, Arizona are pretenders, Calgary over achieved last year, Edmonton has no depth and is punching above their weight class and Vegas has finally come back down to earth.

The argument can be made that the Canucks are overachieving too, but with the addition of Toffoli, Hughes getting better every game, and Markstrom having a Vezina finalist season.... The stars have aligned

The above means we obviously make the playoffs.

You never know what can happen, but I'm going to be a realist (and I dont want to jinx them ;) but no cup this year

Huggy Bear for the Calder!!

And in my opinion Marky falls just short of the Vezina and is the first runner up.

Go Canucks Go
