We need MacEwen in there man. Line up lacks toughness.

Would love for us to acquire Adam Lowry somehow.

I think Sutter's got to be on his way out. MacEwen is cheaper, and he's a good bottom six guy. At the very least developing well.

maybe but still we have no idea what move JB is going to make prior to deadline. Did we expect this move?

Tough to see Madden dealt but no telling if he'll be able to continue his college success in the NHL.  If Madden makes it though, then he's going to be a thorn in the Canucks side.

Still, Toffoli should make this team much better.  He's young-ish veteran player like Pearson and can slot in at basically every forward position, if I'm not mistaken.  Looking at this from a different angle, a line of Pearson-Miller-Toffoli would be a solid line and all three are recent acquisitions by the Canucks.  All three can also play with the Canucks young top drafted players which, in Miller's and Horvat's cases, we have already seen positives from.

It'll be interesting if the Canucks can re-sign Toffoli but I think the odds are pretty good actually.  Unfortunately for Ferland, there's a high chance that he may not be able to play in the NHL for a long time and possibly ever.  If Ferland is placed on LTIR or if he retires, then the Canucks will have $3.5M in cap space.  It's not what anyone would have wanted for Ferland, but it does mean the Canucks have options.

I think Madden will be a player but he’s still a maybe. A late 2’nd round pick is definitely a maybe.  Toffoli for sure will help.  In my opinion it’s a good move as long as we can re-sign him which will be tough but hopefully Benning has a plan to do so (moving out contracts / IR).

Madden wasn’t going to surpass Petterson or Horvat any time soon, so do we really want a 160lb center as our 3rd or 4th line center.  Yes he will get bigger but he’s already 20 and that is very small. Petey and Hughes are small but they are also our 2 best players. We can’t have too many guys that size, especially if they aren’t elite players.

I'm not sure if I can say that Madden is elite. If he was, he would've gone in the first round, top 5 pick, not in the 3rd round.

With that being said, I think Madden's going to be a good NHL player. Serviceable at the very least.

I think Roussel is more likely. Doubt Benning guts our C depth heading in to the playoffs. W'ers though, we've got LOADS of them. Clearing Rouss' $3m and getting some mid range asstes back (perhaps to help pay to move Baer) and we're laughing.

I’m not a fan of rentals they never work out...trading Madden I’m fine with but I would rather it of been for a offseason swop trade (younger player of equal value) .i liked Madden motor and skill set but he’s so small and Hoglander is the Canucks small guy, so I’m not sure where Madden would of fit on the Canucks. 3rd line with gaud? Not really strong or big enough line. 4th line? Not really.

im upset the picks traded I’m sure they where not needed to make this deal. Jimbo gets ripped outa draft picks again. Jimbo should not be doing the negotiating he a deal idiot. ..get Jimbo off the phone and get a badass agent negotiating for the Canucks..just have Jimbo sign off the final deal.

dumb giving up any draft picks. 2020 Canuck can take Draft Friday off and sleep in Saturday 2nd round....what’s Canucks 1st pick now?  in 2020 draft a player at 100 something....crazy and in a strong draft year.

Canucks have a youngish Top 6, Pettersson and Horvat will be the two Cs in the Top 6 for the foreseeable future. For the bottom 6 Cs, they have options: Gaudette, Sutter, Beagle, MacEwen, Focht. Madden may have had challenges making this team within the next few years. If anything, he would've been cheap against the Cap. Doesn't help them now though. The time is now.

Toffoli gives them a chance to win now. Benning won't want to wait any longer, this is his 6th year as GM and he desperately wants playoffs again (before he's fired). Maybe he sacrificed a bit to get Toffoli, but it had to be done if they want to get in.

Off season, maybe.  Even that's a stretch.  They obviously see Sutter as a key player

Look at the other deals being made with firsts for arguably lesser players and maybe think on this a bit...

Thing is, Toffoli doesn't gaurantee that they get into the postseason. It helps, but could very well backfire on Benning.

For the most part I agree that it’s not as bad as most think but if Motte and Fatenberg are leaving we still need replacements for them even if they are from Utica, also Ferlund would have to retire or be on IR for the remainder of contract for this to work but it’s possible a guy like Sutter, Baertschi, Eriksson or Beagle come off the books early.

And we have to replace the veteran support players with cheap ELC guys who are (at least) as good in those roles.
