[Speculation] Canucks interested in Tyson Barrie

saw enough of him in Colorado, NO!  cant afford him, plus he is a liability in his own end.  Two teams now apparently don't want him.  The two he has played for.  Puts up points but gives up boatloads of chances against.  I may be alone here but tryamkin is more what we need for playoffs

Far from alone. I’d rather have Tryamkin on the backend than Barrie any day of the week. Vancouver doesn’t need a porous puck moving defenseman who plays with little to no physicality.

Tryamkin at least has his imposing physical stature which is still a very valued commodity in the league.

I think Benning was interested in Barrie in the event that Hughes’ game didn’t translate as well as it did. Can’t see him being on Benning’s radar at all now.

Another nail in the coffin (to a Barrie signing) would be that our own up coming prospect D in Rathbone is also listed as 5'11.

So rather not load up on smurfs.  Maybe 1 more if that D got skills and skates like Hughes.

Same. A defensive corps built on skill only will get crushed in the playoffs.

Look at who the Blues concentrated on injuring first. Tyler Myers.

He balanced the size and strength battle between the two teams. If Myers and Ferland were good to go, I think that Vancouver would have had St. Louis on the ropes by now, if not taken them out completely, or at least played with more aggression.

The right price for me would be...

1yr x  3.0 - 3.5M.

Barrie would get a slight increase in pay.  Would replace Stecher.

But would rather have a bigger imposing D man to clear the net and be able to battle along the boards.  We seen how the big forwards are using their size advantage over Stecher.  Would expect them to do the same to Barrie.

That is not an increase in pay for Barrie. His current contract is 5.5 a year.

It would be nice to have a 2nd quality offensive D on our team, especially one with a Right Shot imo...but it at what cost!?

Edmundson Hughes

Edler Barrie

Benn Myers

OJ/Rafferty

Wonder what Edmundson wants contract wise...he is 27 years old, plays with an edge, won a cup with the Blues last year. 4yr 3.5-3.75m per?

Barrie 4yr 20m 5m per year?

Markstrom 4yr 5.75m per?

GM Jimbo would need to move out Sutter, Baertschi and hopefully #21. To dump Sven, #21 and Sutter we would have to add Jake, Demko, Hoglander, Lind, Woo, Gaudette in the deals or a 1st or 2nd along with one of them as well.

Consider moving Pearson this off season if we can get a 2nd round pick back as well.

Really hope we try get #21 to Ottawa or Detroit, give something up to get out from that 6m cap hit!! Sucks but we need that cap space now to keep our team together and improve upon it!

The Canucks already have another quality offensive defenseman. His name is Troy.

Methinks Rathbone is gonna be ready to injected into the lineup sooner rather than later. I imagine there's a good chance he actually starts next season with the big club, and I believe he'll have a solid first season. Dude's a gem. Between him, Juolevi, Rafferty, and already having Hughes and Myers on the big club, I think we're in pretty good shape as far as puck movers go, so I'm really not interested in Barrie.

What we really need is a big, physical blueliner capable of shutting down other team's top guys while putting up a few points of his own. Essentially someone that can replace Edler, but maybe a bit meaner.

Ask Jeff O’Neil & Jamie McLennan What they think of the Kadri/Barrie trade.

No thanks to Barrie.

Yup. While Barrie may have somewhat helped the Leafs in the regular season, I believe it is a common opinion that Kadri would have been of greater use in the playoffs... sorry, the "qualifiers".

Retention is based on the cap hit not on the actual salary.  So the retention would be based off the $6 million not his $1 million salary.  He could be dealt to Detroit with Demko at $3 million retained and we can get their second round pick.  I think Benning would be all over that, Detroit needs a young potential #1 goalie and Loui wouldn’t have a problem playing in Detroit with all the Swedish connections.

Its based on both.

You retain 50%? You PAY 50% of the remaining salary.  You can pay more than 50% by trading him after his start of year annual signing bonus. This summer that is quite a bit. Next year only a Mill by memory.

And get a 50% of the real cap hit.  Still only 50% if u paid his bonus.

I definitely see the need for another RHD.  My preference is Tanev. From other UFA's TJ Brodie is of interest, not sure we could afford? Vatanen I also have mild interest.  But the best RHD on the market, for our situation? Is Tanev!

Or in a big punt >> Byfuglien. I still prefer Tanev.  I always thought Byfuglien. In spite of enormous talent? Was a headcase...

Barrie I cannot see the fit.  A PP specialist, who wont supplant Quinn Hughes. Who would require the Canucks to change their entire defensive structure.

It might be fun. Hughes and Barrie.  With Pettersson & some of our scorers.  Like the Harlem Globetrotters. A fire wagon, free wheeling brand of hockey, 80's style!

But we could sure take a sh!t kickin defensively...

This team cant possibly trot out Edler and Tanev year after year.  Since Edler is signed that likely means Tanev gone.  As loyal and as good as they are they are often injured.  Edler needs to be and frankly should be at his age a #4 Dman.  What this playoffs has shown is our D have a difficult time breaking other teams cycle.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust the opinion of either tbh. But it goes without saying that Barrie is not the piece we need going forward. Especially since we already have Rathbone that could likely do what Barrie does anyway. So we'd just be running a D core of nothing but 5'11 and under guys if we brought in Barrie. Most of which bring no physicality or defensive prowess.
