Some people want a million draft picks for the next 10years it seems haha. Like trying to build this crazy good team that we’ll never see because we’ll all be dead haha

I too believe our young core is not completed, and we shouldn’t have traded away picks for help now.  That doesn’t mean I want us to lose, and Miss the playoffs.  Imo the fans wanting picks simply don’t agree with JB thinking the rebuild is over.  Winning will shut me up.

What does the rebuild is over even mean? If you aren't constantly stocking for the future, you are failing your team in the long run. That doesn't have to come through quantity either. There should never be a finite end to rebuilding. It's a constant process.

I do get your line of thinking. But at what point does it turn into the Oilers debacle of 2006-2016 y'know? I think a good organization has to take a somewhat fluid approach to building a team. You never know what you will hit on in a draft until 1, 2, 3, or more years down the road. If you are constantly just banking on the draft to build your team, you can get mired in long-a** meaningless seasons which wears on a team and player confidence. Could you imagine the team this year without JT Miller? Furthermore, if Benning feels he can trade away picks, it means they're fairly confident he has some NHL players coming from the previous drafts. With Benning and Co's draft record and successes, they have earned the benefit of the doubt. 

 

Anyways, long time lurker on here and excited about this team no matter what. We should all be incredibly pumped about our young talent. Don't get too hung up on finishing atop the division this year. I would say, we aren't even in our window legitimately yet. That's a pretty exciting thought.

JB never said the rebuild is over. He did say he is hoping to see at least 7 young players make the roster over the next couple of years. How is that construed to suggest Benning thinks the rebuild is over when he thinks nearly a third of the roster will be changed with youth? He wants to make the playoffs to assess the team in that environment to see how to proceed. We didn't sell the farm, there's plenty of talent still coming up.

 

We moved Madden because he felt he might be a winger in the NHL and we have Podkolzin, Hoglander, Lind, etc to fill that role (nevermind that Madden may have gotten a season ending hand injury and we all know how we love to get on players for injury issues). Focht is looking like a decent center and Gaudette is getting a vote of confidence. Draft picks to fill up our top 6 (and currently our top line) is hardly something worth crying about.

 

There have been plenty of (championship) teams that have missed on their 1st round picks anyway, so those are no better than throwing picks away for nothing. At least we got players of value where we expect those high draft picks should hopefully land anyway.

Man life was so less stressful the last 5 years at this time.  The next thing we were looking forward to was draft day.  We're going to be on pins and needles for 5 weeks.   Then its a whole nutha level of stress.  Good stress though.
