YEGCanuck
Interesting Jimbo indicated he sees Marc as a penalty kill specialist. It also sounds like Marc is a person of character which is a characteristic the Canucks value.

Based off his numbers, which were pretty outstanding at the NCAA, he seems like a pretty offensive player. He mentioned he saw Lockwood as a top 9 or 4 energy guy. But just sees MM as a pk guy. I don't really know the style of game he plays. Anyone pay better attention this year?
wildcam
One year deal $700,000 salary in AHL or NHL...Guess they had to show him the money... Think it will be tough for Marc to make top 9...He is a centre so depth now Madden is gone.. He should put up big numbers in Utica..Will be interesting.. He's basically being given a goal to achieve to make the team. If he can be a PK guy (not all offense translates to the NHL), then he can take over one of the PK spots currently held by Loui Eriksson and if he can play center at the NHL level, then also a Sutter or Beagle spot in the future (especially a call up considering those guys get hurt often). With that said, he wants him to be a PK guy, but that doesn't limit his ability to play offense if he can bring it. A sound two way game always gets you in the good books with the coaches and management. 1

In most cases, you would give him a game at the end of a season to end the ELC contract and generally offer a one way deal (similarly to Rafferty/Teves). They are simply bypassing this because the contract is for next season and going straight to a one way deal. There has been a lot of Utica talk that we don't have enough centers, this adds for next season. Unlikely to earn a spot of camp, but he could earn an early call up option like Graovac did. If he can PK at the NHL level as Benning hopes he does, then he could very well get looks should Sutter (if he's still here next season) and Beagle get injured as they seem to do so every season. Hopefully this is also some fuel for Gaudette to step up in this role as well.

He praised his skill and playmaking and how he makes players around him better, so they clearly value his offensive upside as well. Aside from the character as you mentioned, I think he values his ability to play a two way game.

Ossi Vaananen
Probably our 1C in Utica next season. I think his career path would have been more optimistic if he left after his sophomore year, his stats - while impressive - stagnated after that. A good call-up option maybe. I'm still of the opinion the NHL will finish the 19/20 season.
YearoftheNuck
Looks like he’s put up solid numbers his entire life. Hmm, maybe this could be another free gem like Rafferty.

Loui Eriksson is a PK guy......maybe, just maybe the leagues cap solution involves a compliance buy out or 2 just like in 2013 Does Jimbo know something that we don't know and has found a PK replacement? He was up to 1.4 PPG in his final season and during that time, he may have elevated his defensive side of the game. He had 10 shorthanded goals. Probably one of the reasons Benning wants him on the PK as he's responsible, but also an offensive threat on the PK which we don't really have right now. Although as of now, I agree that he's likely a good call up option and potentially 1C (although he will have to battle some AHL vets for that spot).

Michaelis is certainly primed for that role. There certainly will have to be some rule exceptions with these unforseen circumstances, so we will see how it plays out. I'm not sure is Michaelis can step right into an NHL PK coming out of college, so we will see how he fares in camp. Benning does say he hopes he develops into a PK guy, so I imagine it'll take some time. Could be a replacement for Sutter in another year.

Pete M
so....if this is a replacement for Madden... if Marc keeps pace with a Madden's development, then JB really only gave up a 2nd and a conditional 4th round pick for Toffoli ....and Schaller...not bad if this happens, and if Toffoli signs with the Canucks.

Not really a replacement for Madden. Michaelis is 4 years older than Madden. Madden's got a higher ceiling and could be a Top 6 C (though, he most likely becomes a very good 3C). Michaelis comes in as the 1C in Utica and depth call up option next season. He does play LW and could carve out a role on the bottom six, especially if Josh Leivo isn't retained. I don't have a ton of expectations for Michaelis. If he can play a few games next season for the Canucks, that'll be a win.
Sedinyoureyesontheprize
Just looking at his numbers this signing seems like another heist pulled off by JimBo. Someone mentioned this guy to be Maddens replacement. Could be. He’s got an offensive edge and based on the limited information on him he will fit right in unlike madden who was 2-3 years away yet. Hoping this signing works out well for both sides.
SilentSam
Sounds like a young man Who was intent on finishing his education while still chasing his dream.. I like this. A full grown body that can definitely put pressure on others at Camp.. if there’s any physicality or grit to his game e will come in owning it. best of luck Marc!
