Gator
There no denying that being force to remain in our homes is the best way to fight this virus. Italy had 50,000 people under martial law a few weeks ago, and I wouldnt be surprised if it comes to that here. But why wait for it to get out of hand first? It worked for China. Although we shouldnt need to pry people out of their homes or weld doors shut. Anyone leaves their home they're arrested on site and forced to quarantine under military supervision. Have people deliver good sanitized food to the ones that need it in the mean time. Disinfect the streets, have hospital staff ready to try and save minimal critical patients instead of being overwhelmed. This is a pandemic and it only takes 1 bad apple to ruin it for everyone. Martial Law may be the only way. Do you agree? Edited March 20, 2020 by Brock Botanen

You want everyone quarantined and/or arrested if they leave their homes.... Everyone except doctors, nurses, other health professionals, daycare providers, military, police, ambulance, truck drivers, border security, coast Guard, air traffic controllers, grounds crew, lab researchers, manufacturers, ect.... It isn't that simple. 2

Provost
We will be on mandatory lockdown by the end of the weekend. We don't have the police or military resources to really enforce it though.

RetroCanuck
If we shut down all non-essential businesses for 14 days then we would effectively prevent the spread of the virus

And it is that easy with martial law, you going to out muscle the military? Military, you may not be aware, use civilian air fields. Plus some essential goods (like a possible vaccine) will perhaps need to be transported via air. The military cannot police ~40milion people - Let's be real. California tried exactly what you are suggesting and their governor basically said it would be policed by 'social pressure', not by military or law enforcement.

Tortorella's Rant
The quickest way to end this is to go full authoritarian and force everyone to stay out of the public. This worked in Wuhan if you believe the reports. But we won't do that. So people are going to go hang out enmasse at parks and etc.
Tre Mac
I work in manufacturing - they say practice social distance but I just observed three workers putting product in a enclosure(4x8). They have sani wipes for the office but nothing for the shop except sanitizer on the doors into the office.(ie shop floors, my computer/desk). I really don't think they care much about our safety tbh - I am sure they care about the ones making big coin that get to work from home but not us peons. I might just take a leave of absence and take the financial hit. Edited March 20, 2020 by Tre Mac

I'm not picking on British Columbia I have family there but I have heard a lot of people tell me that they don't feel like BC is taking it serious enough I don't know if that is the case I know they're closures of schools and daycares and other things were all after Alberta's decision to do it and I think you guys have the second most cases in the country. Maybe you can fill me in on more of the approach they are taking. To be honest I hardly watch news anymore or TV for that matter.
Bure_Pavel
Martial Law is not going to stop this thing its too late, would just delay the inevitable, just keeping making money while social distancing.

We have to simply do what the best guidelines say to do. Of course there will be idiots. Welcome to life. But we should be able to flatten the curve and thats the main goal.
