SilentSam
Where the hell is Vintage !? .. TORONTO — The Maple Leafs have landed another Russian lottery ticket. Alexander Barabanov chose Toronto from a field of more than 20 interested NHL teams and signed a one-year, entry-level contract on Tuesday. The 25-year-old winger arrives after spending parts of seven seasons with SKA St. Petersburg, where he was part of two Gagarin Cup champions. He also won Olympic gold with Russia in 2018 . Barabanov is listed at five-foot-nine, 192 pounds and racked up 28 goals and 66 points across 101 games over his last two KHL seasons. Where's Wellwood
Now watch Dubas be lauded for this as some brilliant move.
DeNiro
20 points in 43 games in the KHL. Impressive stats for a D-man. What’s that you say? He’s a forward?? Only in Leaf Land does a small undrafted 25 year old forward who puts up below average stats gets hyped like this. Goldobin is better than him. JeremyCuddles
Yeah he had a down year this year, at least compared to last year. But still an interesting add. I mean, he brings literally nothing that they don't already have. They need defense, especially when they lose Barrie this summer. They needed defense even with Barrie. Good cheap option to fill out the roster at least. He very likely knows they are in cap hell and will for sure get a bottom 6 spot. Lol. Russ
I didn't think 66 points in his last 101 games would be classified as a lottery ticket......
JM_
I'd be moderately interested if he signed with us, but I'd be wondering about the fit. This is the kind of move the Leaves are going to have to do for quite a while yet, its all they can afford.
Slegr
If the NHL managed to set up a playoffs format that starts in June, would Barabanov be eligible? I'm hoping our giant Tryamkin gets signed towards the end of April, once his KHL contract officially ends, and that he comes over ASAP if playoffs do happen. Not TSN but sportsnet yesterday has two articles about the leafs and Raptors before you see that Colby Cave is in a coma fighting for his life. They truly are just all about Toronto first no matter what. It’s truly embarrassing and sad.

He is signed after the trade deadline and the Leafs did not own his rights prior to this year's trade dead line. However, if Tryamkin signs, he would be eligible because the Canucks did qualify him before he went tot he KHL, hence, the Canucks had the rights of Tryamkin before the 2020 trade deadline.

To be fair, I'm sure there are at least 6 articles on Sportsnet that claim Barabanov's play will, in fact, cure Covid-19.
