Googlie
If and when play resumes, what will be the new normal? Some things buddies and I have been mulling over: Will full face shields be compulsory? Will hitting be allowed? Will post whistle scrums result in penalties? Will face washing result in a match penalty and automatic ejection? Will team benches be extended to allow for 2 meter spacing? Will goal celebrations be solitary, with no team hugs? And if most of these are in place, will the game be worth watching?
luckylager
Maybe #1. If 2-6 are even in consideration the league should just call it quits until they can actually play hockey again.

No more open mouth kissing for Marchand. 2

Maybe some symbolic gestures, like elbow bumps instead of hugs, but for the most part, it’s going to be testing that gets players back on the ice. The issue right now is the shortfall in available test kits. The NHL (and other sports leagues) could go out and secure test kits for their players, but having a bunch of healthy millionaires jump the line and pay their way into grabbing thousands of tests, while there aren’t enough to go around for front-line health workers and their patients, would definitely be a horrible look. If and when testing capacity finally reaches the necessary levels, the NHL will be able to bring in enough test kits to guarantee the safety of the players, without needing to take any drastic measures that would change the way the game is played (other than no fans in the stands, of course). This could easily be 2 or more years, before fans are in the buildings to watch games. Imagine what that does to the cap.
khay
#1 should be enough of a measure as long as they do testing before every game. The players won't be able to spit anymore lol

Have Lucic escort him out and both self isolate for the next 14 years. We give Looch a somewhat shining legacy for how he went out and we don't hate him. Boom - boom. Problems solved. NexusRift
I'm guessing a full polycarbonate face shield requirement. Other than that, anything else will alter the game dynamics. As far as spitting? A few spittoons on each bench and the penalty box oughta do it.

Aw man....COVID aside I can't get my mind around half shields.
King Heffy
Handshake line might be eliminated. Lucic will have to find a new platform to utter death threats. Ryan Callahan may need a full face shield as apparently he looks like an ice cream cone. Edited May 7, 2020 by King Heffy
IBatch
Really if the league plans to finish the season I can’t see how they couldn’t follow social distancing rules and allow some fans in to see game - or even just the families of the players etc. Just have specific times when they arrive and allow them in one at a time - direct them to a row etc. If done intelligently they could phase fans into the games the same way to at least get some people in the stands leaving rows to separate them. Mandatory masks when walking around and waiting - let them take them off once seated. It’s not rocket science. Fans that have had covid and recovered....surely they should both be allowed back to work and to participate in events before herd or vaccinations have been completed. The league will never suspend a Bruin, they will suspend the player he licked before they even suspend him.
