@Herberts Vasiljevs yup I was being a tad fictitious with that part. He has nothing to stand on with this because he didn’t do anything after he got his money with the blue jackets and then got shipped to Carolina for a 5th round pick. This really makes Carter looking like he’s grasping straws here

I was 10 when he left. I was initially pretty upset when August came around and we couldn't re-sign him, but even as a young kid, it only took me less than a year after to say "ohhhhhh now I get it - he just sucks now!"

Don't like how he's using the political bandwagon to throw the Canucks under the bus.

Not to mention this could be seen as undermining BLM movements in society since, from the article, it's unsubstantiated.

Using this movement for his own gain.  Greedy when you think of it.

2nd and 3rd overall picks going into their primes or a guy that is 30-31 years old. Not a difficult decision for anyone to make. This is why so many people look the other way when people cry racism. I don't doubt he's dealt with racism in his life, but you can't just throw the race card at everyone that disagrees with you. It makes you look petty and it makes people less willing to hear out other minorities when real racism takes place.

I am curious what Burkie's thoughts are on these claims. He was apart of the video but he never stated his opinion on it. Nonis worked under Burkie, or am I wrong? I am curious if he feels Nonis would drop Carter based on racism. Or if it really was Nonis prioritizing two top 3 picks going into their primes. Also I doubt Boston traded him based on racism either, since it was clear they were being cheap. Carter himself literally states Boston was giving Jumbo Joe a hard time in negotiations as well. The media I doubt was racist either, but it is Boston so it's possible. But there are numerous times white players are called greedy. Media loves doing it to Russians as well when negotiations drag out.

Yet when the Sedin's retired, he said "family issues" was the reason he wouldn't come to the celebration.

So he's upset that the team would try to re-sign two of the best players on the team first? Wow.

And he's trying to twist this? Wow.

I agree that BLM. But this doesn't jive to me.

Alot of this will happen esp with the recent BLM/Political stuff going on...carter wont be the last and i also call BS on his claims, pretty pathetic to do this now with NO factional evidence

I think most people are able to see through it.

Reports prior to free agency was the Nucks offered one year at $2m and he was asking $3m for 3 years. There was also a story out of LA after free agency began where their GM was asked if he inquired about Carter as LA needed scoring. The GM said he did talk to Carter's agent and when told the $3m price replied, "Does he know who he got to play with last season"? He passed. I remember this because I was surprised, and impressed, at that level of respect for the Sedins from an opposing GM at the time.

The fact Carter wasn't signed as a UFA until Sept 13th is clear indicator he had overpriced himself. He signed a one year deal at $2.5m with Columbus. I would argue that his asking price was clearly higher than that through the summer as by mid Sept the pressure is on for a UFA to get a deal done. There's only three reasons UFA's go that long without signing: overvaluing themselves, their health is in serious question, or simply over the hill with declining skills. Only one of those could apply to Carter.

Carter is playing the race card for attention when the truth is he simply overvalued himself.

This is along the lines of what I remember. I also remember there were some comments from his side, that would support what we are saying, but I can't remember them exactly.

I loved Carter in his time here and was disappointed they couldn't make something work.  I was younger at the time therefore didn't know the ins & outs of the business side. I think @Baggins laid it out pretty well.

I'd add the Canucks also had Jovanovski as a free agent that summer who they also didn't have the money to re-sign. (Unfortunately, he was my fav player :(So it wasn't just Carter they couldn't afford.

I've actually heard Carter talk about race issues in the past, he's provided great insight & I really appreciated his opinion. Its disappointing to hear he feels it went down this way.

Carter told the Hockey Central hosts he “loved” his season in Vancouver, but was perplexed when his agent told him the team was more interested in signing the Sedins than him. Henrik and Daniel were coming off 75- and 71-point seasons, respectively, and were pending restricted free agents.

This says it all...  of course they wanted to sign the young kids who were drafted 2nd and 3rd overall AND HAD MORE POINTS carrying this guy....
