Popular Post Nail
2024 DRAFT TIDBITS PART 2 Maxim Dubchak (RD/LD) Kitchener has become a defenceman producing machine in the OHL, with Dubchak slated to be a high pick a few years after Michael Lowe went 1st overall to the Calgary Flames. Through 25 games this season, Dubchak has 2 goals and 16 points and has really become the go to guy on the Rangers blueline with Lowe graduated. An offensive defenceman, Dubchak has an NHL calibre shot and playmaking skills, however he will still need to work on his defensive game. Dubchak projects as an offensive defenceman that could possibly be used on the penalty kill, but may be better off without it. Filip Simba (RW/LW) Simba is a hulking 6'5 two-way winger who has had scouts drooling all over him this season. Simba is off to a hot start for Lulea in the SHL, with 21 points in 26 games thus far. Simba is a player with absolutely no holes in his game at all. He is capable both offensively and defensively, and as he continues to mature and improve these skills will be flirting with elite levels. Any 17 year old who is capable of putting up a 7.58 AVR playing pro warrants a high pick, and alongside Dubchak, Simba may force his way into the top 5 of this years draft. Matthew Lavallee (G) Still trying to find your goalie of the future? Lavallee may be your guy. Although he is not rated as highly by scouts as S:t Cyr Eriksson, that doesn't mean Lavallee is a slouch. Some scouts think he could've been the top goalie prospect drafted in some of the previous drafts, and will only be drafted lower this year due to Eriksson. Lavallee is in his second year as starter for the Red Deer Rebels, and has already improved his save percentage by 15 points to .904 in his second season. At 6'4, Lavallee has NHL size but it will just be a matter of him developing properly. Nic Williamson (LW) A late birthday 2005 born, Williamson is in his first year of eligibility while tearing up the OHL in his 3rd season with the Erie Otters. Williamson is a 6'1 200 lbs skilled forward, and through 25 games this year has 20 goals and 36 points. He has an 8.24 AVR in these games, and is on pace to completely shatter his previous seasons point totals. There are some concerns whether Williamson's game will translate to the pro levels, however there is no denying his abilities at the CHL level. It is of note that Williamson is currently centered by highly touted 2025 Draft Prospect Nolan Parker. Keegan Scott (C/RW/LW) A smaller playmaking center at 5'10, Scott currently has 7 goals and 21 points through 25 OHL games this year. Like Williamson, Scott is a later birthday and is in his 3rd OHL season for the Hamilton Bulldogs. Scott is in a tough situation, as the Bulldogs are currently the worst team in the OHL, however his attributes makeup doesn't really help. Scott is a pure offensive playmaking forward, with minimal attributes in both shooting and defensive play. Scott will be the type of boom or bust prospect that could turn a guy into a 50 goal scorer, or be too much of a liability to even play. Is this worth a risk for a team in the top 10? 5 1
