Popular Post Kurisu
Pictured: Somehow Brian Elliott in action for the Flyers, despite having not debuted for them yet FLY ER DIE: GOALTENDING CAROUSEL CONTINUES A busy evening in Philadelphia has concluded, with a total of 4 trades being completed by the Flyers. Much of the action took place in the crease, with 3 goalies changing hands in a series of moves. First, Cameron Talbot, fresh off losing his job to a controversial Oilers trade, was acquired in exchange for veteran defender Nick Schultz. Before Talbot could even celebrate moving out of Alberta, he was immediately traded to Calgary for Brian Elliott and Deryk Engelland. Next, a classy move as Michal Neuvirth was sent to Arizona for a chance to stay in the big leagues. In the other deal not involving goalies, the Flyers agreed to take on the contract of Clayton Stoner, with Jacob Larsson accepted as compensation. So what have the Flyers gained today? First; a definite upgrade in net. Despite cracking the top 60 goalies in the league this year, Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth were clearly not in the long-term plans. Elliott is a solid, unassuming veteran to handle the Flyers crease during a brief transition period. Elliott is on an expiring contract, and will be hoping for an extension this offseason. If things go well, Elliott could be a solid mentor for top goaltending prospect Carter Hart. Second; the Flyers shook up their defence with a couple of gritty veterans. Out are Nick Schultz and Brandon Manning, in are hard-hitting Clayton Stoner and Deryk Engelland, who will join Radko Gudas as the team's muscle. In more exciting news, Philly gained young Swedish blueliner Jacob Larsson, who plays a good all-around game on the left side. The Flyers are now loaded with D prospects, led by absolute stud Ivan Provorov along with Travis Sanheim and Philippe Myers. It remains to be seen if this will affect the future of Shayne Gostisbehere. In the last piece of news, fringe players Chris VandeVelde and Brandon Manning were placed on waivers today. Hot prospect Travis Konecny failed to crack the roster this year at training camp, and will surely return next year with a chip on his shoulder. Kobayashi Maru
The Dallas Stars are doing the infamous re-tool as we have key young core team members with Seguin and Klingberg along with some bright young stars ready to make the jump. The team likely could be competitive right from the get-go, but the Stars are a proud organization and want to get back to the dance like the days of Modano, Neiuwendyk and Zubov. Key playoff performers like Sharp, Hudler, Hemsky, Oduya, Niemi and Eaves, will continue to be proud Stars for the time being, but know they are auditioning for future suitors in this years playoffs. Eaves has been growing out his beard early, as he knows there are strong chances he will joint the other beard brothers in San Jose. Teams will be lining up early for these key warriors as we know the future of Dallas is in a few years. Starting Lineup for the Dallas Stars to start the season but we know youth will emerge over the year to shake this up: Benn - Seguin - Sharp Hudler - Spezza - Hemsky Roussel - Eakin - Eaves Korpikoski - Janmark – Ritchie Hamhuis - Klingberg Oduya - Johns Benn - Nemeth Lehtonen Niemi BOLD: On the block (Picks or prospects) Italics: Available in a hockey deal Edited June 23, 2020 by Kobayashi Maru
