Simply put, he was not good enough to play for one of the KHL top teams. Initially there was some news on Dec 4 that CSKA was going to trade Goldobin to Amur, Khabarovsk which is located on the Russian Far East, that is very far away from the Goldobin's favorite luxury cities of Moscow and St.Petersburg. Then I saw comments that Goldobin negotiated contract with Metallurg from Magnitogorsk for less salary than he got with CSKA. And now CSKA agreed to terminate his 2-year contract (until April 30, 2022) to let Goldobin sign new contract with Metallurg for less money.

Doing some google searches Khabarovsk looks really nice though

I think we should have given goldobin more of a chance should have waived eriksson in sept and actually given him make top six and perform or at least  a opportunity to up his trade value. I hope he owns khl and maybe comes back

If waiving LE was an option it would of been done three years ago.

should have waived him long time ago    at least his contracts online 1 yr after this season  if im van i bury guy in minors maybe he just retires  fingers crossed

If there is a minors this year.

If not then he gets paid to not play, and even if he plays in the minors he will take home more money, due to the lack of escrow payments.

Either way Loui is a winner.

not sure sitting at home  is what a pro athlete wants  hopefully he just walks away we only owe him 5 mill in real money over 2 yrs he's been paid 31 of 36 mill  and the nhl will claw back 33 percent or more   so that's only 1.66 mill per yr  not sure he's gonna wanna sit on a bus and presss box in utica  for 2 yrs doing that im sure he can play in Sweden for 750k-1 mill and be around family

If anyone is interested, Goldobin scored his first goal for Metallurg in his second game for new club, this was the game against Barys from Kazakhstan. Nikolay signed contract with Metallurg in mid-December just for the rest of the 2020-2021 KHL season.
