Not true.

The next phase of the draft is done after the play in rounds.

If Vancouver loses the play in round and wins the lottery, they would have to surrender that pick if the season were cancelled at any point after that.

The play-in round doesn’t count as playoffs.  If they lose they’d be considered to have missed the playoffs and they keep their pick

Right I get that part.

My point was if they got knocked out in the play ins and then won the lottery would they keep the first overall if the season was then cancelled.

I think the answer might be yes but not sure.

If they finish the play in. And the season is subsequently cancelled in the following round (or later). Vancouver would keep the pick. The seeding for the bottom 15 teams would be set at that point. The seeding for the other teams would depend on how far the playoffs get.

No, after the play ins, the teams that lose are officially out of the playoffs no if or buts.

Thus that pick is ours no matter if the remaining playoffs are cancelled.

Okay cool thanks.

Was unsure how that would have worked.

I think the only way it gets muddy is if the games get cancelled mid play-in round.  Let’s say it gets cancelled after 4 games. Some teams have moved on but the Canucks and Wild are tied 2/2.  That could get interesting. Lol. But at that point the lottery wouldn’t have happened. So no danger of losing a lottery pick there either

I'd like to see Montreal win because it'd piss Toronto off to no end. I don't mind Montreal or Ottawa, and Ottawa's out of it. Also, &^@# Melnyk. I'd be fine with NYI winning too, they're likable.

I'd hate to see Toronto or Edmonton win. Anyone but them.

Pittsburgh winning would be ridiculous too.  They have a 40-23-6 record ffs.  Plus they’d get Lefreniere just as their two generational players are starting to slow down?  I would not be ok with that.

I'd find that easier to swallow because I wouldn't have to constantly hear about it. If Toronto or Edmonton win we'll never hear the end of it..

It'd def work super nicely for Pittsburgh

I can't help but wonder if they wouldn't trade down and take Byfield though, I don't know much about Penguins prospects but they're gonna need someone to step in for Crosby/Malkin eventually

If it comes to be, maybe we are due to win the lottery!

We're not dead last only because DET just dropped 3 spots in the order on Friday

Our bad luck in the NHL draft lottery is becoming legendary. :picard:

Poll #1: Had to go with none, if we can't have it nobody can type thing, but if none wasn't an option, I'd say Montreal, they were the only ones pulling for us in 2011, and it won't be forgotten.

Poll #2: Tough between Edmonton and Toronto(mainly because of my utmost loathing of Toronto), but Edmonton has had way too many 1st OA picks, and wasted them all on an otherwise crap-fest of a line-up.

Poll #3: Play to Win. I can never cheer for my team to lose. If we do lose to Minny, at least we'd have a silver lining with the draft lottery.

Poll#4: Too much reward for teams who continually crap the bed. That said, I have no idea what a format change would look like.

As long as Edmonton or Toronto don’t get the first overall pick, I’ll be happy. Also, I’ll be cheering for the Canucks — if they lose, it’s still a win-win as there is a chance to get the first overall pick.

I though Toronto didn't even have a first thanks to Dumbass mishandling the cap?  I would absolutely love to see Toronto win the lottery and have to give Lafreniere to Carolina, especially after the Hurricanes already beat the Laffs with Ayers in net.

The lottery is clearly rigged. We've all known it for years, It should just be the bottom 5 teams in it. Not all 15. Detroit or Ottawa should have got the first.

The lottery is run by one of the big law firms Ernst and Young. If the league was rigging the lottery they wouldn't have given pick after pick to the Oilers. Occam's razor, the simplest explanation is most likely to be the truth. The lottery is just incompetence on the league's part not some kind of nefarious plot.

Winnipeg as they don't have much of anything else  and we would get to see and appreciate his skill against our own

Chicago the least, as i am sick of hearing Chelsea Dagger

I would like to see us advance from the play ins, but i would rather have a 2020 1st round now, seeing it is a strong draft and we are short on top picks

Would not like to see Pittsburgh get him.. I mean c'mon - Mario, Crosby, AND this kid?

Also don't want to see TO get him bc f**k Toronto.

I said Columbus bc I like what they did by going all in last year, even though they knew they were losing a couple of big pieces in the off season. I think them getting the 1 OA would be nice karma.

As much as I don't like Edmonton and think it's ridiculous that they've squandered so many 1 OA picks.. man - could you imagine AL on McDavid's wing? As a hockey fan I would love to see what those two could do together..
