(Proposal) Boeser to Ottawa for Tkachuk

Recommended Posts

I posted this idea last year.

To Ottawa: Brock Boeser

To Vancouver: Brady Tkachuk

Analysis: These 2 young players are different. The likelihood of this deal depends on the subjective evaluation of each team's professional scouts. Tkachuk is on ELC and thus grants Vancouver cap saving.

prediction: This deal is 50/50 and totally dependant on how each franchise's professional scouts' opionions. If Ottawa's scouts think that Boeser is the next 35-50 goal scorer of the league, they would be happy to pull the trigger despite of Boeser's injuries.

We would have to add to the deal.  If we gave them Demko they may bite.  I'd do it for Boeser and Demko as Tkachuk would slide in right next to BO.  Add Podkolzin to that line and nobody would want to play against it.  Perfect compliment to the Petey line.

Having said that I think our defence is more of a priority than a winger for BO so I'm sure IF Benning does pull a deal it is most likely for a defenceman...

Tkachuk would be an RFA the same summer as Pettersson and Hughes.  Even if you able to convince Dorion and the Sens to do that deal, how are you going to sign him in the same summer as those two stars?

Considering the team is already having conversations how it would be complicated to get their two star players locked up, and you add another emerging star to that mix, you are basically handcuffing yourself.  Aside from Ottawa saying no, Tkachuk is good, but man you are putting the team is a precarious situation to sign 3 highly rated RFA's with already a tight cap.

Ottawa says no straight up.  Tkachuk has been a huge emerging leader for that team at a such a young age and not only has the skill but has the swagger to carry that team on his shoulders.  He agitates, puts the puck in the net, and is an emerging leader to which Ottawa will keep around a long time.  Boeser with his injuries, questions of productivity without Pettersson, and questions about whether he has lost his shot; does not even remotely interest them.

Tkachuk is their franchise center of the future.

He's untouchable, imo.

Instead, I counter with the following.

Boeser to Buffalo for their 8th over all pick this year, Brandon Montour, and Mattias Samuelsson.

With the 8th pick I take Braden Schneider.

Montour allows us to move on from Tanev, and Samuelsson is a project for the future.

How does a defenseman who can't play defense allow us to move on from Tanev?

There are certaintly better options at 8th than braden schneider

I agree OTT says no straight up...as far as cap goes BTs likely won’t look much different then BB currently is - the savings would be spent this year but be off the books by the end of the year anyways - it would help sign Tanev to a one year deal, Edper is off too, Sutter, Pearson, Roussel, Bear....those guys won’t all be back ... this deal would help us this year for sure and not make much of a difference next off-season (difference between BT and BB.).   Likely have to add ... but even then I don’t see them biting.

Not defensemen.

He's said to  be very much like Jacob Trouba an still has a lot of untapped upside that could see him way out perform his draft position.

He may not be that far away either.

He's already got the size and skating.

He just needs to work on fine tuning his skills to NHL caliber.

Ottawa laughs and hangs up the phone.

But you should always take BPA in my opinion and not draft according to position
