We went to Rome after and were much less impressed. Italy used to tourists, don't go out of there way for them? We were invited to peoples homes, they took the trouble to talk to us. Plus many of the 'Julius Caesar' era Roman architecture is still standing. The coliseum aside, most in Rome architectural digs. Yes many of the sites are spectacular; St Peter's cathedral, the Vatican, Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona are circa 15th century. The shopping districts are not in Euro's, Turkish dollars and you can visit the textile factories & shops where Italian wool is woven to suits on a hill the side of the Bosphorus. It's 1/3rd to 1/6th to buy European fashion. See one of the shopkeepers in pressed clothes and perfect shoes hustling his wares on a trolley down the train line between trains (because of the traffic). I'm off the long way to Canada next week from Oz. Will add some pics, I have 7 weeks on the road. We do have Egypt, Jordan booked next year. I am so inspired, thanks! This so interesting also! These pillars 2500 + years old? 2 kids, a business and work keep me from going anywhere fun. Without family to watch the kids I am kind of limited to around BC

Did you happen to go to Mahanakhon Skywalk? That's a crazy experience walking on a glass floor 78 stories above traffic. And Wat Phra Chetuphon (Wat Pho) is a must see. View from Skywalk in Bangkok. It's not often you're above the fireworks (Skywalk). Slash rocking out at SGC Stadium in Bangkok. Random creepy crawlies for sale in the market. Here we have some silk worms, crickets, grasshoppers etc for your dining pleasure. Temple seen from river boat. (Chao Phraya River) Reclining Bhudda at Wat Pho. Canuck Surfer
Amongst the most moving street items from my last trip. Ukraine & Russia is not a new thing; this is a memorial opposite the library in Downtown Edmonton. The Holocaust more grisly, barbaric; we still need to remember the catastrophic suffering during Holodomor 1932/33. 5 Million died, 4 Million of these souls Ukrainian. Under Stalin most farmland was taken as state farms. It's grains and produce sold oversea's & shipped to support mainland Russia, people displaced, left for dead. Millions, 5 million total dead 4 million Ukrainian souls among. Now considered one of the most egregious examples of genocide. Spoiler This monument, like one in Winnipeg by City Hall, was erected 1983 opposite the library in Edmonton on it's unfortunate 50th anniversary. The hands represent reaching for food. Below is from show at the Ukrainian festival, also Edmonton in May. Such a beautiful culture. Fate, I met a family including 2 sisters, a week later in Gastown, who had performed in the 3rd picture.

bishopshodan
Some of the locals stopped by yesterday so I shared a few of my apples and pears, good folks. The guy with the horns, I call him Rogers, is very friendly. I dont let him come too close because, well, he has a nice rack. Hmmm, I have never said that about a dude before.
