Highlights

The 1st we gave up for Miller isn't a lottery

We made the playoffs after winning a 5 game series.

The young players looked great in the series. The veterans looked great in the series.

OJ made debut and played good even though he played little and Rathbone signed..

^^^ Sets up excitement for next season, especially if the Veterans can carry their play over.

Only real negative thing, more so unfortunate, is the fact we might lose Toffoli(who we spent assets on) but the pro's outweigh that.

Also Tryamkin not signing but, like Toffoli, that's more unfortunate than a negative we can fault someone on.

A lot went right that had to go right. It's more of a win than a loss and we still aren't done.

Bonuses(don't count): The Leafs and Oilers MISSED THE PLAYOFFS AND DIDN'T WIN THE LOTTERY!!!

Without wanting to beat a dead horse the tryamkin situation did leave wiggle room for both sides to find a solution during next season. It’s probably better this way anyway as he may have to cool his expectations slightly to get a spot, which maybe means slightly better cap hit, plus he gets to play hockey in the KHL as opposed to sitting around twiddling his thumbs.

it also might mean he’s gone but tbh if we keep Myers it’s no great loss. If we have Myers and Tryamkin that’s some monster D

I've been a pretty vocal critic of Benning, still am as I'm skeptical of how he'll maneuver the cap with the unforced errors in UFA, but yes, this season is a success. The team is playing with house money now and we have a core in place where making playoffs to get experience actually makes sense now.

The offseason will be interesting to watch.

Gotta see who and how many Just  walk away from this team because of the cap issues.
On ice the team played were a team at this point in a rebuild really should a wildcard bubble team.
so on ice this seasons a success off ice is TBD

How many can walk away because of cap issues?  TT?  Never was happening in the first place so he’s out.

Markstrom and Tanev are the other two UFAs - we can afford both of them.   Fatenburg and Leivo won’t be no loss there .... and if Ferland is on the LTIR we won’t need to make a trade  (Pearson?) of any sort to fit the rest in.

Canucks in, Oilers, Leafs and Jets out. That's a successful season. If the Nucks make it past the first round and the Oilers, Leafs and Jets don't get that 1st overall pick it's a HUGE success.

So huge success after the first round. Now after eliminating the Blues and taking Vegas to game 7 in the second round I'm calling the season a massive success even if we lose tomorrow night.

Success? Yes, damn yes. 1000 times over yes.

The fact this thread started August 8th and now it’s the 4th of Sept in my time zone at least and for awhile and most said yes back then - and now we are still playing ... pretty much nailed it.
